Skinny people vs gun belts?

So I bought a gun belt off of another forum member. I've since tried wearing it a couple times, even without a holster/gun and the weight associated with it. And to put it lightly, it hurts, it digs into my sides and is generally uncomfortable. I've since reverted to my fairly thick standard 1.5" wide belt, but my question is.... Is a gun belt just going to be uncomfortable no matter what, or am I doing something wrong here?

For the record I'm 6' and ~135lbs.

Are you nothing but bones?... Seriously, that weight doesn't sound healthy.

I found some 1.75" regular belts from American Eagle at the mall. They are not stiff like gun belts but being really wide helps support the gun. That 1/4 inch does make a difference compared to my old 1.5" belts.

I wish I had your problem. I have 100 lbs on you, with the same height.

Because of my bodily overhang over my belt I have thus far been unable to find a comfortable IWB holster for my little XD-40 subcompact. My new SmartCarry works out OK, but I am not terribly comfortable with the XD's location. An SOB is enroute. Maybe this will be another solution.

1.5" gun belts are fine. No need to go with 1.75" ones. Most pants won't have belt loops to fit anyway.

I have not found a pair of pants that won't fit 1.75" belts. All my jeans are regular store bought jeans. Old Navy, Levi's, Aeropostale, etc. Same goes for cargo shorts. Even the one pair of Dockers slacks I have will fit a 1.75" belt with ease.

I'm belt shopping, and I'd guess this is one item that you get exactly what you pay for it... Unfortunately, the good ones are three digits.

For a "budget" gun belt, I've found that a decent 1.5" wide "reverisble" belt works very well. It is brown on one side and black on the other, and a little over 1.5" wide. Because it is two thick layers of decent leather, it is much better than most.

I will invest in a quality reinforced, lined belt down the road, but I can "feel your pain", wearing a really stiff belt, if you are "all angles and no curves..."

I assume there's some break-in time

Good Gawd you're skin and bones!!! I'm not sure what type of gun belt you have. Belts like the "Wilderness Instructor" do tend to be heavy just because of the material used. A good 1.5" leather gun should not be any more uncomfortable than any other belt. One thing that may help you is an IWB holster like the Crossbreed or Dakota Defender and others that have a large back piece which distributes the weight over a wider area. You also might consider a good quality bellyband holster that you may be able to wear lower on your hips.
