The pistols and ammo I will be shooting that day go in before I head out. What stays in though are my 25X binocs. My 2 staple guns(1 small for putting targets on the cardboard, and 1 big for putting the cardboard onto the wood frames on the rifle range. A box of staples for each of the staplers. A 33' tape measure(never thought I'd need it but it has been used more than a few times). A mutlitool, along with a M-16 cleaning rod that unscrews into 3 pieces for getting unejected brass out of a rifle. A Sharpie, gel ink and rollerball pen. A silicone rag, cotton rag, and otis mini cleaning kit. 2 shooting glasses, ear muffs, and 4 sets of foam ear plugs. Last but not least is my range member card and electronic key attached to a lanyard.

I thought about the midway bag (too big), but bought Uncle Mikes Deluxe that is perfect. Perfect size, padded side pocket with removable zip up pistol pouch/mat. can hold 3 pistols. pockets everywhere including inside for mags. Tons of room for ammo, glasses, tools, cleaning supplies, muffs, holsters, etc.

My range bag was designed for two guns so I carry my Colt 1991A1 .45 in one padded side pouch and my H&K USP .45 in the other padded side pouch. I put my XD .40 SC in a padded gun pouch inside. I have a couple mags for each gun, a black Sharpie, mag loader for the XD, ear muffs, 2 sets of shooting glasses, utility tool.

Stepping up on my soapbox:
Only one person has included a first aid kit? That is pretty suprising. I have a first aid kit in every gun bag I have. It fits into a small maxpeditions pouch that will easily fit into a cargo pocket. It contains:
  1. 2 israeli trauma bandages
  2. angiocath (14 gauge)
  3. nasal airway
  4. SF tourniquet
  5. misc bandages
  6. Gloves
  7. Hemcon dressing
  8. bunch of other crap
You can take a course to properly learn how to use the angiocath, nasal airway, and tourniquet. You can also learn the fundamentals of treating gunshot wounds (at least to the point of stabalizing someone in order to get them to a hospital).

Bottom line, you should have a first aid kit with you at the range. And if you are are the range alone it should be within reach of your shooting bench. I was hit by my own ricochet. It raised a nasty welt but if it had penetrated I would have had to treat myself and do it quickly. A first aid kit at home or in the car would not have been much help.

I teach courses so we take emergency treatment of gunshot wounds seriously, but I encourage you all to get a basic kit and some training. The life you save could me mine, it could be your family members or it could be your own.

I'm trying not to sound like the nag that is telling you to wait 2 hours after you eat to go swimming, but stabalizing a GSW wound can be pretty straight forward especially as you are only buying enough time to get the victim to the hospital.

All that you can depend on from a 45 is that it will drill a .45 - .70 inch hole about 14 inches into someone. There will not be "energy dump", people will not fly backwards, and they will not necessarily fall as if they have been struck by lighting.
