Sticking slide XD-40 Sub.. Ideas?
This is a strange one on me, but on one of my XD's I am having a slide that is jamming on me during fire.
My XD-40 Subcompact is having the slide close after a round discharges, and wont slide open. Its strange, because after a round is loaded into the tube, and I start firing, the slide will just lock up and refuse to open. This happens periodically and at random. I will spend a tremendous amount of time "attempting" to work the slide open. When it does give, sometimes theres an unspent round in the tube, and sometime nothing. I have made sure the grip safety is held down tight as ever in case thats the issue, but no change. There is barely any play in the slide with the forward or rearward motion when pulling on the slide. Ammo used are new, not remanufactored Speer or Precision ammunition Frangiables. Any ideas out there?

I had the same question. Is the gun slide cycling once it fires? It obviously is at least sometimes because you say there is a new unfired round chambered. If the slide never went back (cycled), the new round would not have been stripped from the magazine. If the slide does cycle back and then goes back forward into battery again and the chamber is empty, then I say you have a feed problem likely due to a magazine issue.
What I think you are saying is the once the slide cycles you have a hard time pulling it back manually to check the chamber?

Strip it, and make sure the guide rod is perfectly centered on the barrel. If it's off-center, then it tends to hang up, or (as happened to me) cause misfeeds and ejection problems. Also, make sure the springs haven't crept past the retaining flanges on the guide rod.
Just a suggestion. |

First off is the gun new? If not how many rounds through it before this started to happen? Is the gun stock? If you cycle the gun with no mag does it lock up?

Didnt someone have this problem and when they changed their mag springs the problem went away. Something like the round wasnt being loaded into the pistol with a strong enough spring. They installed a stronger aftermarket spring in the mag and they havnt had a feed problem or slide problem since.

maybe try loading a round from the mag and then drop the mag and fire it and see if it still does it, just try and remove one variable at a time. if you try a few different things at once and it does work you wont know what the exact reason was. |

Whats happening, is the mag is loaded into the well. Slide pulled back and racked forward to load the round into the tube. Sight picture aquired, and trigger pulled. Round fires and ejects from the port.
Failure part comes in where trigger is pulled. Casing ejects, slide comes to the rear and then forward, loading next into the tube. Trigger pulled again, but no fire. When the slide is pulled rear to check, the slide will not move. It wont move rearward, nor forward. It is locked into the forward position and wont budge! Even if the mag is dropped, the slide will not operate. The grip safety can be dang near crushed, and the slide will still not move. This is a new XD. I have maybe put 300 rounds through it.

When the slide gets stuck ... How are you going about un-sticking the slide ??
Also, as apierce918 asked have you changed anything ?? I'm thinking not because it is so new .... Have you taken it apart ?? Some people have had a problem with not getting the guide-rod/spring back in properly and have had the slide lock-up ... But I don't remember them firing it when re-assembled incorrectly. What type of ammo are you using ?? Quote:
