V-10 slide cracking issues, and some comparison questions.

Hey guys, sent an email to Springfield CS about this, but apparently they're pretty slow and I thought maybe someone here knew.

Thinking about getting a ported model, but after some google research, it seemed a number of people had some issues with the slide cracking. However, most of these threads were from 2006, which is a long time ago in terms of product improvement.

So basically, I'm wondering if Springfield has fixed the issue with the slide cracking so current models won't.

Also, would a 5-in tactical model have about the same amount of felt recoil in the same caliber as a 4-in. ported model? I've never owned a ported handgun before, so I'm trying to determine whether it would be worth it to risk a cracked slide with a ported model, or get a tactical model assuming it has similar felt recoil and accuracy due to the extra weight and barrel length.

Has anyone shot both a V-10 and a Tactical that could answer this?

No offense, ports are not for you.

Care to elaborate? I can't see what I said that would make you think that. I've never owned a ported gun before, but I know how they work and whatnot.

It is HIS decision, if he wants to try a ported gun, who are we to say NO?

I have the V-10 in .40 and absolutely love it. Last night I was chatting with someone who has both a 9 and 40 with 8,000+ through them each with no problems. Springfield has a lifetime warranty on these, so even if it did, they would gladly fix it.

The only writeups I can find on this problem are all from the first year of production and only the 9's, so it is very probable that SA found the problem and corrected it.

When I first read about it, I was worried too, but since I cannot find any recent problems, I'm just going to file it away and see if 20,000 rounds down the road if I have a problem lol.

That's more along the lines of the answer I was looking for. I trust SA's ability to replace the gun, but if given the option I'd rather not deal with it at all.

I've been looking for a hi-cap, low recoiling pistol, and was originally thinking about getting an HK P30, which is unusual because I always told myself they were overpriced for a plastic gun. But the grip on that thing was enough to change my mind. However, I rented a service XD at the range just out of curiosity and ended up loving it. So I figured I could get the V10 model and have the hi-cap, low-recoiling gun I'd been looking for. Now if only SA could make the grip as comfortable as the one on the P30...

1.)It wasn't.

2.)I am very mellow.

You guys don't need an excuse to flirt with me.

He should learn more about ported barrels, its obvious he thinks they reduce recoil.

I said porting reduces FELT recoil, which is true for me.

I know porting reduces muzzle rise and not the actual recoil of the gun. However, porting does redirect the recoil in a manner that I can control the gun better, which for me makes the recoil seem lighter.

Please call S.A. and tell them this. Obviously they don't know any better and could use your insight.
