Removing/ installing xd sights
Yes, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find it. For sight removal/installation do you move the sights left to right, right to left, or either? For reference, assume you are holding the gun with the barrel pointed outwards.
Thanks guys for your informative responses! Last edited by Ontarget; 06-10-2008 at 12:40 PM. |

Without looking at mine (I am at work), you should be able to look very closely at the sight track, you will see some faint wear marks where it draged some of the finish off when it was installed. Remove in the same direction.

I know it is definitely not both. If I remember correctly, I believe removal is left to right. Don't quote me on the direction though. I am positive that it is only one way though, not both.

Oh, and installation would be the opposite of the removal.

I could be wrong, but when looking down on my XD (pointed away) it looks like removeal would be right to left, and instalation is left to right.
Im basing this on the slight wear I can see in the finish to the left of my rear site. I have not done any sight jobs on my XD, so I dont know for sure, I am just guessing based on what I see. |

Note that removing them in the proper direction still wont make them want to come out... |

I've done it both ways. If it's easier in one direction it's only due to the finish being scraped off when it was installed. The dovetail slot is not tapered, neither are the sights.
