Yet another new XD45 owner . . .

Hey all, and greetings from Vegas.

Just picked this beauty up brand new for a song and a dance, and totally loving it. This is my first pistol, and I don't think I could have grabbed anything better for the price.

I've put 300 rounds through it over the weekend. 200 rds of remington green box, and 100 rds gold dot.

My only gripes so far are the grips and the sights. The front grip wreaked hell on my finger tips (although fairly callused from machining and automotive work) while firing. I plan to either get a slip on grip or lightly sanding them this week.

The sights. I'm a rifle guy so I just don't understand these things very well. The book says 6 o'clock. It shoots a bit low at 20 yds, and pretty decent at 15 yds. Maybe i'll figure them out without sending my slide out for new sights. I'd like to fire some decent FMJ this next week and see if I can get this dialed in at a good distance.

Anyways, i've been lurking through the site for the last few days and learned alot, and hope to pick up some more info and such along the ways. Great to be here!

Whatever you do don't sand the grip..at least not yourself. It probably won't look too good after that and may be worse on your fingers than it already is.

I've heard it suggested that different grain weight bullets can effect your POI. You might want to try that. I'm no expert but pistols sights can be a tad different. They're faster if that makes any sense.

Yeah, that does make sense. I wanted to try some different ammo, but i'm not rich, and can definitely find alternative activities to partake in for way cheaper. But, this thing is just too much fun. I'm keeping my eyes open for some decent practice ammo for next weekend. Hopefully, cheaper than what i've been paying.

I'll see if a grip cover will work out better for me, but i've heard they can slide. Not too crazy about that. I'm going to talk to someone at my local shop and see what they recommend.

Thanks for the info.

Welcome Kenny!

I am a Las Vegas shooter also and the best cheapest ammo you will find is the Winchester White Box from Walmart. about $28.00 a 100 rd box of .45 also I'm not sure where you shoot but Discount Firearms is a good place to shoot. I either shoot there or out in the desert when I just want to mess around and waste some ammo. Anyways welcome to XD, your gonna get addicted and own more I promise. If you ever need someone to go shooting with PM me.

Jack

My friend's Hk USP .40 has a Houge grip sleeve on it. His gun is feather light compared to our XDs and has a lot snappier recoil. The sleeve didn't move at all. From my limited experience with grip sleeves you probably won't have trouble with them.

A sleeved gun can feel really nice in the hands. I was actually able to hold his gun right after he put the sleeve on. It adds some meat to the grip.

Thanks GOMER. I'll be sure to let you know.

I picked this up from Discount. I haven't shot there yet. I usually only fire out in the desert/mountains headed towards Jean.

I'll pick up some of the white box and see how that works out for me this weekend.

Thanks again

I'll have to order one and see how it works out. I understand there's a bit of trimming required for the rear safety, but shouldn't be a huge ordeal. I do have fairly long fingers so maybe this will help me out a bit.

Welcome from Oregon. +1 on the Winchester White Box FMJ's. Seems they're cheaper than a lot of the crap ammo out there too.
