I'd go with stock guide rod--if you want to switch it out later, a Don's Guide Rod is only going to cost you what...$30?

One was standard with 3 mags for $375 and the other was one that the dealer said the original owner had installed an upgraded guiderod and new spring which origianally cost him about $90. This gun was selling for $400 w/3 mags.

What luck have you guys here had with XD's (or other autos) you've bought used?
Very good luck. My one and only so far XD I bought used (actually traded for). Two magazines, they had $380 on it.

I say jump on either one of those.

$90 for a guide rod? Maybe it's tungsten. Steel wouldn't cost near that.

As long as you have some a decent amount of experience with pistols, I would think you should be fine inspecting a pistol to see if it's good enough to purchase. Try some dry firing, work the slide, etc. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a name brand used pistol.

I've owned a lot of guns in my life. Mostly new, some used, more used than new as I've gotten older.

Over the years, I've traded off a lot of guns. Not once did I ever trade one because there was something wrong with it. I traded them off because I got bored with them, or because I saw something else I wanted more at the time. At one time I got rid of almost all of them because I "got into" bass fishing, and wanted to upgrade my fishing tackle.

Now I'm not saying you can't get a lemon buying a used gun, but I suspect that most people are more like me. They just want something else.

Oh, and of the used one's I've bought, not one has ever given me any problems.

i think most of the time people give up a gun because they are funding a new toy, or are on some hard times.
