Thumbs up Purchased my first gun today...

...and MAN I'M PUMPED!

UPDATE: Range report posted!

To be more specific I purchased a bitone XD40SC today new for $528.26 after tax from a gun dealer at the Fort Worth Gun Show. There were only two dealers at the show that had the gun and despite my willingness to pay cashneither one would bargain AT ALL off their marked prices ($488 and $490). I also purchased a 20ct box of Federal Premium 40S&W 165grain HYDRA-SHOK JHP rounds ($23.95) and a 50ct box of Winchester 40S&W 165grain FMJ rounds ($16.95). I plan on using the Winchesters at the range and the Federals to protect my castle. I've spent most of the day since I got it familiarizing myself with the weapon, gear and practicing field stripping it.

I have to say that it's a very unique feeling that I'm torn between being excited and yet I'm filled with a sense of responsibility. As I mentioned in another post both my wife and I plan on taking a firearms safety course and then I'm planning on getting my CHL.

I'll post pictures at soon as my wife returns with my camera. For now you guys will have to settle for a cheesy cameraphone picture of me holding the case and box of ammo outside the gun show. Sorry in advance.

God Bless America and especially Texas!

Congrats and welcome to gun ownership! I know this feeling well. The safety class is a good idea too. I just took mine a couple weeks ago (pre-requisite for my CHL.) I'll probably take it again someday with my wife. Happy shootin'! Post a range report when you can!

I thought they just handed Texans guns as they exited the womb.

So now I'm out a knife, beat up 4X4, sleeveless t-shirt and a can of tobacco.
With the exception of the sleeveless T-shirt these things are staples in my life. I'm writing my congressman about this. I recently spent a week in Kansas city Missouri. Didn't get to see much of it but what I did see I liked, especially the food.

That first firearm feels so good. Be safe and have fun.
