Frankenstein's XD Conversion...

After talking to SA on the phone, both Custom Shop and Customer Service...

There is NO difference between an XD45 Service frame, and an XD45 Tactical Frame. None. You can run a 4" slide or 5" slide on EITHER frame.

I own an XD45 4".
I WANT and XD45 Compact.
I have a $200 investment in trigger work, etc on the bottm end of my 4", and Trijicons on the slide.
I want a XD45 Tactical "Target" for Range/Competition wth low-mount adjustable sights...

Solution:
1. Buy a new XD45 Tactical "Compact" (Bi-tone)
2. Swap frames!

Now I will have a Bi-Tone Tactical with a Custom Shop trigger and full size frame (soon to wear low-mount adjustable target sights). AND I will own a 4" Compact XD45 with Trijicons and a "stock" trigger, for a carry gun...

The serial numbers follow the frames by law. The numbers on the slades/barrels are irrelevent.

I can't wait until Father's Day.... lol

That sounds like a good way to go about getting what you want! Let's see some pics when you get everything put together.

Technically it is feasible, but I for one would not use a hybridized gun for self-defense. If you ever have to shoot somebody, the police will confiscate your pistol and check the serial numbers. A prosecutor could use mismatched serial numbers as evidence that you are a gun nut or Rambo-type who is overly eager to shoot somebody.

Some argue that any gunsmithing or tuning would be the same thing as using such a hybridized gun. My counter argument is that a trigger job is hard for the prosecution to prove. Mismatched serial numbers on the other hand are irrefutable.

You can do what you want, but I advise against it.

I would think that if you have the other set to show them that it would negate any ill effects of mismatching items. You didn't just buy parts and make a gun, you simply swapped pieces. JMO

I've done it (pictures posted: Xd Tac vs Comp Vs SC).

I have both frames, and both slides. If I sell later, I will swap back. Like Wendy said... as long as I have both, no big deal. God, I hope the prosecution hangs their whole case on that issue....

Until then, it's the perfect set.
