compact vs service model 4"

On Sprinfield's website there are listings for compacts and 4" service models. Is the only difference the 2 extra rounds with the service model?

Well, plus the grip length. Otherwise they are the same. Personally I think the compact offers more versatility.

When looking on sprinfield's site, I can't seem to find a .40 listed under compact models.

Only the .45 ACP is offered as a compact. If you wanted a compact .40 (or 9 or 357) you can do a "grip chop". Search it here, you'll find a lot. Basically you cut the bottom of the grip to be identical to the compact grips.

CA model, my new 45compact case says "not legal in cali"

i guess it means the 13 round clip, ca would get 2: 10 rounders

The service comes with 2 13-round I believe magazines. Rifles have clips, pistols have mags, minor correction.

Cali-legal guns can not have greater than a 10-round mag, else they're classified as an assault weapon. The service comes with 2 of the "13-round" length mags modified to hold only 10. The compact comes with a 10-round 'shorty' and a 13-round modified to hold only 10, plus the spacer on the bottom to extend the handle.

Get the compact, you can put 10 in the mag and it's almost an inch shorter grip, or the longer if you think you'll need 13.

Welcome to xdtalk.

Thanks everybody for the input. Went back to the gun shop today and he had the same exact pistol with a 12 rd mag in it. He didn't seem to know about why mine came with the 10 rd.

I mentioned something about if certain states had round limitaions and he said not that he knows of, but we are across the country from CA so that might be the reason he didn't know.

Oh well. I wanted to get a couple of extra magazines anyway so I'll keep the 10 rds as extras. Thanks again for the help.

At least you have an optimistic outlook on the situation.
I think that is great.
Try some of the forum sponsors.
I'm sure some of them have the extra mags you are looking for.
