How many rounds does it take to wear out an XD?
I bought my XD 9mm Service in May and have put two thousand rounds through it this month. Not a single misfire except for once when one of my cheapa$$ rounds didn't go boom. Not the guns fault.
Anywho... I was thinking, at this rate will I need a new gun next year? How long can I expect my XD to live? I did a cursory forum search but found nothing definite... just some people talking about a million round Glock out there. I've only cleaned her twice (both times after I had put 300-500 rounds of very very dirty Monarch ammo through her. I'm sure that I won't go shooting quite so much in the future. Right now I'm trying to become what I would consider proficient at handguns so that I will be confident/comfortable when my carry permit arrives. Anywho... anyone know what the service life of these firearms are? I know that they've passed some grueling 25k round tests... but what about beyond that? Anyone have an XD that just died? Any guesstimates as to how many rounds you put through it?

I dont think anyone can tell you exactly how many rounds you can put through it before it falls apart. My guess is that as long as you take good care of it, you will never see that day. You might have something minor go wrong with it, but I wouldnt worry. Shoot as much as you like!

Exactly 34,439 rounds until it's no more
Whatever happens, if something breaks SA will fix it for free. I wouldn't worry about needing a new gun.

Incidentally is that exactly how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

Well...
You buy the rounds (and pay all the beer expenses) and I'll get you the scientific test results.

I'm pretty sure you will be out of money before the gun gives up.

I put 10,000 rounds through mine in the first year and only cleaned it 6-7 times. I'm up to 12,500 but I've slowed down on that gun since I shoot my other XDs now. There's a 20,000 round torture test linked from the SA website.

1 round can destroy it.
But wear it out ... If you take care of it with proper maintenance ..... Many more rounds than most people will shoot. The 20,000 round XD torture test was a test of things most people would never dream of doing to a firearm, and most assuredly shortened it's life. If you take care of it, and are not using it in competition, I see no reason why it will not be passed on to a loved one after you depart this planet. XD TORTURE TEST Trial by fire: 20,000 rounds are put through Springfield Armory's XD.

The Frame rails will wear out eventually , every other part is replaceable.

The frame rails are replaceable also. They are simply held in the frame by pins. The foreward rails are what take all the force the rear rails which are polymer and molded with the frame take very little if any wear.
