Service and tactical slides not interchangeable?

I have had a tactical XD9 and just got the service XD9.

The tactical slide will work on the service frame, but the service slide will not work on the tactical frame.

Any ideas why?

I don't know why that would be I can swap my XD45 Compact slide with my XD45 Tactical and it works fine. What is it that won't work?

What do you mean a Tactical frame? If you mean a Service frame with a longer grip, Springfield is the only place you can get them. They are not that bad in price, there is a post about grip reduction and someone said they were about $60, the real problem is getting a slide. You will have to have it shipped to an FFL as it is considered a complete gun.

The only way I know of is to buy the whole gun.

You cannot just buy an "extra" frame. The guy that got a new frame from SA had to get his messed up frame replaced, and if I recall correctly he had to send the bad frame to SA and they sent the new frame back.

I called SA and the phone flunkie said they aren't interchangeable ... "its not safe" ... typical lawyer-speak.

From an initial investigation, the slide goes back about half the distance it needs to. The barrel looks to jam up in the front of the slide. Maybe the barrell needs slight fitting?

Maybe I'll put the 5" barrel in the Service slide and see if that works.

My tactical frame has about $300 worth of trigger and polishing work into it.

And I'm pirating the slide off the service model to use with an aftermarket threaded barrel and my Trident 9 suppressor.

I'd like to have both set ups work on the tactical frame.
