I suspect you are right on both counts. When the slide was back in the jammed position, there was no movement whatsoever in the barrel, that usually has some slop in it at slidelock. |

sorry to sound like an a hole but if we told you they were not interchangeable why would you force it on there? we wouldnt lie to make ourselves look better or something like that. we are here to help not to give advice and then you go and mess up your gun. they are your guns, you bought them, i just hate when people ask for advice and then go and mess up there guns and cry about after we told them it wouldnt work

I still am at a loss as to what is happening. I am currently carrying a XD45 4" Service slide and barrel on an XD45 Compact Tactical frame. I also have the XD45 Compact 5" Tactical slide and barrel on my XD45 Service frame which has probably 2000 rounds through it. I have never had a problem with either. My question is did you swap slide and barrel or just the slide? I can see where that may cause a problem.

the only difference between the tactical and the standard hs-xd are the slide barrel and recoil spring assembly. as for the frame they are the same. the compact and the new d-m are a different potato

Did my own test this weekend....
I took my XD40 Tactical along with a HS2000 9mm service upper to the range. First off I put about 200 flawless rounds of .40 into the target. No surprise there as this pistol has thousands of rounds down range. Next up took off the Tac slide and placed the HS service slide on the XD frame. Put about 500 flawless rounds of 9mm in the target. Again no surprise as the frames for both slides from the factory are EXACTLY the same. They are interchangeable and if you are having problems more than likely you have assembled them incorrectly or you have another problem with the pistol. The frames for the Service 9mm, Tactical 9mm, Service .40, and the Tactical .40 are all the same and can be used in any configuration. Like what was posted above the SC frames and the XDM frames are different and are NOT interchangeable. |

Some said it did work for them. Others said it should work. Springfield Armory said it wouldn't work, but then that what their supposed to say. Their attorneys would tell purchasers of their guns they aren't supposed to shoot their guns either. Last edited by garandman; 06-16-2008 at 12:44 PM. |

As I said, the tac slide fit on the service frame, but the service slide did not fit on the tac frame. Best guess? Machining tolerances. |

Someone like Springer Precision may be able to help you out with getting the service slide to work as intended... take off some metal here or there.

OK here's the deal call Springfield's and ask them one question (the same one I asked) what's the difference in the frames of the service and tactical??? The answer is nothing. As far as tolerances go, I cracked the slide to my Tac and they sent me a new slide right off the line so the tolerance thing doesn't fly with me either. If you are having problems you might want to check your assembly or you might have some other problems. This is just MY results, but I can't see why yours should be different. YMMV
