Ok, that makes sense...
I'll go back to minding my business.....

Whatever you meant, I'm asking you to get your own thread. And not hijack mine.

I have a very specific technical question that I'd really like to get an answer to.

If that's OK with you.

Sheesh!
Maybe if you'd have been more specific and stated what the problem was, rather than just stating "the service slide will not work on the tactical frame" .... Maybe if you'd have stated why you want to do this swap .... People would not be second guessing you and getting sidetracked.

Best of luck with the swap.
I expect you'll admonish me for stating the obvious, and deviating off topic.

Take it to a smith. If you want to know the answer, start another thread. This one is obviously ruined

Yes, it probably is a barrel fit issue, although I've never heard of anyone else having this problem. Perhaps you are just lucky and have a gun that is a little tighter on clearances. It's a good thing, but not if you want to swap parts between guns.

ETA:
If you have some, coat the suspected barrel contact point with a product called DyChem. If not a magic marker will also work. Put the gun together and attempt to cycle the slide. Then take it apart and do the same thing to the frame. This should help you identify where the interference is located. The location of the interference will determine what step is next.

Again good luck, and try to ignore what I said in the previous post.

I'll try the part marking procedure.

Already done on the other matter.

I still can't picture your problem. I have an XD45 Tactical and a XD45 Service, since the day I got the Compact Tactical the Tactical slide and barrel have been on the Compact frame and the Tactical slide and barrel have been on the Service frame. The Tactical combination has had extensive trigger work done and about 3000 rounds through it. The Compact combination has had minor trigger work and about 1000 rounds throught it. The Compact is my daily carry gun and neither gun has had a failure of any kind.

me and my dad agalindo figured it out at the range one day when we were changing slides and frames, my 9mm service slide would fit on his 40 service frame but not on his 9mm tactical frame, and the 9mm tactical slide would fit on my service frame. sorry but i cant specifically remember why ill ask him

Isn't the top end on the Compact, Tactical and Service all the same length. It all has to do with grip length. And I think the Tac and Service and the same frame. I personally(this is using my 12th grade Texas edumacation) think you have some clearance issues. That or different calibers, i.e. 40 S&W and 9mm have slightly different internals. But hey who knows.

Edit: Just realized you said they are both 9's.
