.40 vs .45

.40 with 16+1
why? because the .45 is a very problematic round and prone to more malfunctions due to it's extreme nose heavy, stubby shape. Every thing has to be just "perfect" for it to all go bang- recoil spring, extractor tuning, ejector shape, and slide stop, etc...
I've had terrible experiences with several mfrs. in .45- Springfields, Ruger, and Taurus.

No problems so far with XD-45. Shoots straight, runs smooth with a variety of ammo.

The 45 and 40 are equal in the feed reliable shape department both are straight wall cartridges not tapered like the 9mm. Both are as proptionally nose heavy. It all depends on what the gun was designed around. 1911's are at their best in 45 acp while 40's and 9mm's are more finicky. In Glocks 9mm is the more reliable round, I suspect it the same with the XD as the gun was originally designed around the 9mm in the HS2000.

Guess I've had a lot of "perfect" experiences with my .45's.
I tried the 40 cal in: Glock, Baby Deasert eagle, and EEA.
I was renting the BDE, and EEA, both started comming apart while firing! (more of an inditment on the firearm and not the cartridge). All three were to snappy for me. As stated before, you gotta get whats right for you to shoot. For me, the 45 just works. For you, its the 40 cal.

As to the 16+1 argument, lets hope you don't need all 16+ rounds in a fight, and pray that you take out you assailent in the first two or so rounds, or that you can disengage after the same amount of fired rounds.

My only issue with the 45 is that they don't make a 45 SC

OK, so I thought I'd post a follow-up here.

I picked up the XDM, as I mentioned, and here is my first time out with it.

XD(M) Range Report, 6/19/08

I also fired an XD45, and even though the grip feels different, they both shoot wonderfully.

I think I'll buy an XDM45 when it comes out.

These stupid 40 vs 45, 9 vs 40, etc arguments have been going on for so long and are so annoying. Shoot what you want, shoot what you shoot best and don't worry what anyone else says. I think there should be a permanent ban on these silly arguments, only kidding, but really how many times can you argue the same points. There are 3 things my mother taught me not to talk about with friends and family: 1)Religion, 2)Politics, 3) Calibers.
