Dude, we need to be using arrows. Arrows and swords.
Swords have won more wars than any other weapon I can think of. Arrows changed the face of history when the Englishmen used their longbows. Y'know, the 12 ga. hasn't won any wars at all. You shoot a .45 at your target, and I'll shoot a 12 ga. Wars do not make one great. |

12 gage ain't a pistol, but then a sub gun ain't either. Now we could inclued the Taurus Thunder........ tell you what, lets get to basics since were going outside the box. You can through rocks made out of ignious and I can choose granate. Winner gets to upgade to an oak club.
As with any of these types of caliber wars, it really comnes down to what works best for you. In my case the 45ACP just does everything right, and the 40 for some reason I couldn't hit a bull in the butt with a big base fiddle. With the 9mm I find that I want to try and push the shot. As to my earlier post I was more or less mixing history with flame with humor with fact. But you can have your 12 gage if I get to use a saiga 12 with the 20 round drum. |

But a LEO took a guy out at 100 yards with a 12g slug. It happened towards the ends of last year. Also Hornady came out with a slug that is pretty darn accurate at distance. Hornady The 45ACP doesn't have a chance, IMO

I'm not disputing that the .45 is a bigger round that leaves bigger holes.
I also agree that many people shoot different rounds better or worse, so go with what works for you. I was disagreeing with measuring a weapon's effectiveness by the wars it has won. |

Most of what I posted was all in fun as nobody ever really wins caliber wars. Every caliber has its place and use just as every weapon does. To Commiehunter I say that the .45ACP replaced the .38 special in the Philipines against drug crazed warriors on up through countless adventures in central America on through two world wars, Korea, and Vietnam. The tunnel rats of Vietnam used them quite a bit, could this have been because they couldn't get thier hands on a .357? And if so then why? Law enforcement has used them even in the advent of .44 magnums, and .357 magnums. Both of these weapons are more powerful than the venerable 45ACP. Yet the 45 just won't die! If you look at it from that stand point then this does proves its greatness as a defensive weapon.
Alaskapopo- You are correct in saying that pistols were not the primary weapon used in WWI or WWII. However we were or are talking pistols here. In WWI the machine gun chopped down many on both sides. Most infantry was armed with bolt action rifles. In WWII, the semi-automatic rifle and submachine gun took things to a new level of violence. But my post was about a pistol cartridge. If you want to talk rifles then we can get on another post and talk about it, but it wouldn't be all that long because we would agree with each other I think on most of it. |

I understand (after your 2nd post) that it was all in fun.
I also understand that the .45 is a good old round that many people like, and it works great. When I find a gun that fits me really well that holds the .45, I'll get one. |
