OK, so I went to the gun show with these factors in mind:

Price: XD(M) is slightly more expensive.

Round: .40 v .45

Grip: Which feels better?

So I went, and I saw an XD45C. Picked it up, it felt good. After a minute or two, I found the XD(M). It was very impressive. The grip felt great. After comparing the two, the grip on the XD(M) was much better for me. I couldn't quite comfortably get all the way around the XD45C.

So, even though they don't make leather holsters for them yet, and even though it isn't the classic .45 like everyone loves, this gun was the perfect fit.

It was $559.00, in my hands and out the door. I couldn't pass up that price.

Also if I had the funds I would love to buy a .40 S&W H&K UMP.

I hate you.

.45 ACP. Only because when my grandfather was shot down in his Wildcat after lighting up a Japanese air fiield somewhere near the Soloman Islands he said his best "7 friends" were the rounds in his Colt.

NOTHING against 40's. But I've ranged my 5" tacky 45 200 rds so far. Lets just say... "I'm good".

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the grip difference between the .40 and the .45? Unless you are going with an XDM which has interchangeable grips, you should seriously consider the grip difference between the two pistols - for me it was enough not to choose the .45... simply too thick. My hands are not that big and I wouldn't be able to shoot it comfortably and accurately.

Just my $.2

Congratulations!!!
You'll have to give us an update after you've ran it through it's paces.

Congrats on the purchase. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I'm a little jealous your XDM holds more .40s than service 40 does.

I own a Sig Sauer P226R in .357 Sig & .40 SW, and a XD-45 ACP Service.

I enjoy shooting all three calibers, but prefer to use the XD-45 Service as my carry piece for several reasons:

1. I enjoy shooting it.
2. Becuase I enjoy shooting it, I shoot it well
3. Because I enjoy shooting it and shoot it well, I hit my intended target
4. Because I enjoy shooting it and shoot it well and hit my intended target I am able to get good size groups
5. A 9mm, .357 Sig, & .40 S&W may expand, but a .45 ACP never shrinks.

+1 for .45 for the reasons stated above. Congrats on your .40 though! You should let me shoot it sometime!

The .45ACP:

It's won 2 world wars.

9mm:

Lost two world wars.

S&W 40:

Ain't done jack.

The 45ACP is the pistol and sub gun round that has defended democracy, and kept communism at bay. It also has the ability to make old Texas law men look really cool,(don't look at me like tht! I mean that in a very respectful , and thankful way). But man its heavey to pack around in 100 degree heat.
