Just personally, I have always been a .45acp fan. Probably because I am a little older in generation and used them in the Service.

However, I also just read a 45 page article written by a cop that also works in a morgue every day, and he blatantly supports .45acp because he says he has seen no case where a one shot kill wasnt a .45acp, .44 magnum or .357 magnum. In any of the other cases where it was multiple shots, except for suicides or point blank execution, the shot was always 9mm or smaller caliber.

He didnt see many or any kills by 10mm (where 10mm was used) nor did he have any cases using .41 caliber so he couldnt comment on those rounds.

.45acp always made the largest wound and caused the most direct damage due to bullet weight.

.45 All the way

- Recoil is better
- Tried and proven round
- More stopping power.

Only downside I feel is prominent is the cost of ammo when running drills, taking courses, or just plane shooting up the range for practice.

I have firearms chambered in both, I enjoy shooting both and they both have their place. I actually just purchased a Springfield XD-40(4 inch service bi-tone) this afternoon ... Hooray for stimulating the economy!

Statistically the 357 is the one shot man stopper at 96%
It is way ahead of all other commonly used calibers.

ETA: If the FBI hadn't wimped out and requested the development of the .40 ... We'd probably all be shooting a 10. But given the choice of firing one handgun round ... I'll take a Magnum or better.

Here's the reason it's limited:

I know I want an XD. I've handled many many handguns, and I like the features and the fit of the XD.

My choice is XD 45C or the new XDM.

The argument I've heard against the .45 is that it's a slow round, and that, at distance, the .40 is often more accurate.

The argument for the .45 is that it's been around forever, and it's a man's round. Mostly an emotional response (even though it is a bigger round, which I guess is the point).
