Need instructions for installing Hogue grip
I bought me a Hogue grip for my XD-9 SM and I managed to get it on. The problem is that I have a gap just under the grip safety (I'll post a pic in a few minutes).
I cut the top 1/4 or 1/2 inch to make it fit but the top near the safety still has a gap. What did I do wrong? Did I slide it on incorrectly? It was only about $8 so I have no problem buying another one to get it to fit like I want. I've seen plenty of pics on here of ones that seem to fit pretty snuggly so I'd like to know what techniques work best. Did I cut enough of it off the top? Do I need to cut it at a specific angle? Any help you guys could provide would be much appreciated. Thanks! Last edited by Chunky; 06-01-2008 at 08:07 PM. |

That looks really low. IIRC it's sopoused to ride higher on the grip. I know most of them I've read about on here have to have a notch cut in the back for the grip safety.

That's too low... unless you have a very wide middle finger!
Look at the distance between the gun's trigger gaurd and the first finger swell on the grip. That distance should fit your finger comfortably. |

Needs to come up higher and then just cut a grove for the grip safety.
Here is my .40 tac....

I just put the OD one on my XD9SC and had to trim some off the bottom right to the second finger swell and cut a notch for the grip safety.

Thanks folks. I'll try it later tonite. Should I take it off to cut it or can I cut while it's still on?
I know these are dumb questions so thanks for bearing with me. |

I don't have one, but I read on another thread to spray woman's hairspray inside it, then it will slide up easily, you use an xacto or single edged razor to trim round the XD's safety, and then in a day or so the hairspray dries and the rubber grip does not go anywhere.
I'd think since the safety depresses with pressure, the grip will slide over it, and as you cut the grip, eventually the safety will protrude as it normally does.

I cut mine after I put it on with a razor. Though it's not the cleanest install. I accidentally cut a little too far down on one side while doing the grip safety and I tried to follow the bottom of the mag well as best I could but it still has some "lumps" here and there around the bottom.
If you're better with a razor than I am you will probably get a cleaner setup. ETA-I did not use any hairspray or any other product to help put the grip on. after working it on the grip I was easily able to apply some force and move the grip wrap further up the grip.
