Not even close, Sig trumps XD any day of the week.

I have both and they are different guns, I would get a 226 in 9mm and an Xd in 45, you will have the best of both worlds, they are great guns in their own respects.

JT....

I own both the XD and SIG....(i just traded my 226 for a 229) and i have to say, i love BOTH......

but.....i love the SIG just a 'tiny, tiny, tiny' bit better than my XD.....

the SIG, IMO, is the "Mercedez Benz" of auto pistols, and the XD is like a high-end Toyota Camry...(note: and the Glock is like an old, Ugly Ass Volkswagon..built like a tank but ugly as hell, LOL....and the Beretta 92 is like a Ferrari, smooth as hell and sexy as a Vegas showgirl.....okay enough of that

both the Sig and the XD, in my experiece have had zero reliability issues or problems of ANY kind...and as good as the XD feels in my hand, the Sig is just PERFECT.....

there is also the difference in triggers, with the Sig having the DA/SA trigger and the XD having the striker-fired action....if you get the Sig be sure to get plenty of practice on that first DA shot..I can shoot the XD slightly better than the SIG....

either choice will serve you well, but if you have the extra cash, get the Sig........

edit: also head over to SIGforum.com --A discussion forum for SIG enthusiasts there are a LOT of experienced Sig guys over there who will give you a ton of information about anything Sig....check em' out

my .02

basically you are comparing a 5 hundred dollar gun vs a 7 hundred dollar gun, I have a 229 in 40 cal, and soon to own the 357 sig barrel for it, I have had in the past a 357 sig xd that I traded to my dad for an xd 45, I traded that in for the compact 45, both are great guns with great reputations, so basically it comes down to what feels good in your hand, ow what fits your price range. I'm just not a big fan of 9mm, granted I reload so price isn't bad for me.

My first gun was a Sig P229 which was to be used as home defense only. I really like shooting it more than my XD. Well balanced, very accurate, and the SA trigger is sweet. I wouldn't carry a Sig though due to the DA/SA trigger which is why I bought my XD. If I have to grab the Sig I'm taking the extra 4 nanoseconds to cock the hammer which if someone is car jacking you there isn't time for. So for home defense I'd recommend the Sig and for concealed carry I'd say go XD.

So weird that most prefer shooting the Sig over the XD.

To me the trigger on the Sig is...just not as...

Maybe I have shot the XD so much it is what I expect.

I am even more accurate with the XD over my Sigs.

I really liked both guns. Before I bought my XD I rented 2 Sigs and played with them a bit. Though you could tell that both the XD and the Sig were good quality, I'd say it was more apparent in the Sigs - the fit was just perfect on those guns. In the end though, the $300 difference tipped it for me. Sink that extra $$ into the XD to get it the way YOU shoot and you'll probably have better results than an out-of-the-box Sig.

Well, you've picked two good ones to consider; both are very highly regarded. Obviously, the 226 is a bit more well known, however, the XD is military grade as well. For me, it would boil down to which trigger is the best; it's your vote. The XD is a fair amount cheaper, so you might consider that one as a great first choice. I love my XD.

Having said that, I am thinking about adding the Sig P250 into my smallish collection! Good luck!

I'm looking for issues such as feel, reliability, trust in the firearm etc. Cost is not really an issue even though I am relativley broke right now, for me, one smart purchase that will last years is worth any extra cost. Thanks everyone.

i have both a p226 and an XD-45 tactical.. if i had to pick between the two i would go with the sig any day of the week.. nothing against the Xd because it is a great tough gun and who can argue with 14 .45's but the sig fits perfect..accurate as hell.. and just the class of auto pistols. if money isnt an issue and you want to buy something stock, the Sig P226 Elite would be your best buy..
