I have some on another gun , and it works fine ,there, but the other gun is an alloy,

and ( at the risk of sounding a bit perverse) can you put it on your slide w/o damaging the holster?

Go for it, not a problem and to give a plug to something I like over skate tape you should check out TruGrip. Couple of the sponsors here sell it:

Grip Tape rocks, I dont use it for CCW because I dont want it causing my clothing to ride up or giving away the presence of the gun but for target shooting and competition shooting...Its DEFINATELY worth using!

I use grip tape on my Comp gun. It was a little tough at first, but after about a week of shooting every day it didn't bother my hand at all.

We have had some crazy heat up here the last couple of weeks and
my hands have been so sweaty I could hardly pull the slide back, but I have had no issues with my grip on the gun. This stuff is awesome!!

My gun is a Canyon Creek competition special. Rich charged $5 for the grip.
