Talking sights again !!!!

Hey gang,
Well I've put about 800 rounds thru my XD 9mm sc.
It is a real natural pointer, BUT I really dont like the sights.
I had a hard time with them to start with, so maybe I am a little bit upset with these factory sights.
I put so white testors paint on them to brighten them up and also put a white line (just the the straight eights) on the rear sight.
It helps my old man eyes pick up the front sight better.

When I talked to the service dept at Springfield, I was told the XS Big Dot sights do not work very well on my short barrel gun. And I was all set to get them .
I looked at the Heine sights and a couple of others, but reading the different threads on the forums,
seems to me the Big dots are the best,
I want this gun set up for defensive use, hitting the 10 ring is secondary.
I think that is an important part of this discussion.

I am also not sold on lasers. I shot one a few times and was not impressed. Although, I can see a big need for them in some defensive sceneos.

Anybody out there have a Big dot on their sub-compact ????

Come on guys and gals talk sights to me !!!

Take care
Jack

i had the firesights on my 40, and they were very bright, somehow i bumped out the front piece when cleaning and it wouldnt stay put when i tried to put it back, i was needing the gun the next day so i put the originals back in before i sold the gun. So now i have firesights i cant use but dont know if something got messed up on the front one to make it slide back and forth

I would suggest you just get a set of TFOs especially if you will be using this gun in the dark. Another option is a TFO front sight and black out the rear so your eye will be drawn to the front sight. I have had both Big Dot and Heinie Straight Eight sights on other guns and don't really care for them. Here is another option if you are looking for sights which get on target quickly Entreprise Arms with practice these can be very fast. Combine the rear ghost ring with an illuminated fron sight and they are very good in the dark.

Where is a good source for the TFO sights and installation?

I've heard that the XD45 sights can be a bear to take off and don't want to mess the slide or sights up myself.

I have a set of the XS BIG Dot on my G26, for a defensive handgun they are great.

Tru Glo TFO's all the way in my opinion, I got mine at GilbertsGuns.com in March for $79.95 and had them installed at my local gunsmith for $35 bucks. I would not recommend doing them yourself unless you are highly qualified, my gunsmith even told me it was a bi*ch to do and your stock sights will probably take a beating when being removed.

The Tru Glo are Tritium and Fiber Optic and are very bright at night and can still be seen during the day. They are low profile so they do not sit high on the slide, I am a big fan of mine.

That's my .2cents.

I have the XS big dots on a 4" compact, the larger dot is more pronounced during the day, but they do not glow until it is dark. For daylight shooting, a fiberoptic sight is probably easier to pickup with 50+ eyes. Before you give up on your stock sights, try getting some of the Testors enamel model paint in bright yellow, try a dot on the sight.

I have XS big dots on my 40 subcompact. I like them. I group better with them than the stock sites. To me i like how fast you can line the sites up. In a defensive weapon, which mine is for, fast site alignment is important.

does anybody think that the ghost ring of those enterprise sights and the big dot of the XS would be a good combination?
