I had a hard time with them to start with, so maybe I am a little bit upset with these factory sights.
I put so white testors paint on them to brighten them up and also put a white line (just the the straight eights) on the rear sight.
It helps my old man eyes pick up the front sight better.

When I talked to the service dept at Springfield, I was told the XS Big Dot sights do not work very well on my short barrel gun. And I was all set to get them .
I looked at the Heine sights and a couple of others, but reading the different threads on the forums,
seems to me the Big dots are the best,
I want this gun set up for defensive use, hitting the 10 ring is secondary.
I think that is an important part of this discussion.

I am also not sold on lasers. I shot one a few times and was not impressed. Although, I can see a big need for them in some defensive sceneos.

Anybody out there have a Big dot on their sub-compact ????

Come on guys and gals talk sights to me !!!

Take care
Jack

hey gang,

Thank you all for your comments. I am still in the "want do I want" stage and am a little confused over what would suit my needs the best.
There really is a lot of options out there.
I went shooting last week and put a few rounds thru my 22 Buckmark. with hi viz sights. Now this is a gun thats dead accurate. Out of a possible 250 my best was 245. at 25 yds
Which is really good for me. Believe me !!!
Then I went to my XD 9mm sc and the score went down a wee wee bit ( I'm not going to tell ya )
It just confirmed the fact that even though the xd is accurate enough; ....
its really not a bullseye gun its a defensive gun.
I noticed when I shot my close up double taps from 7 to 15 feet
I shot mostly one handed and some two handed
I never even looked for sights. It was barrel of gun ... top of slide.... back of gun....
and shoot ..... I constantly hit a 8 x 11 paper
I kinda like the Fairborn/Sykes one hand below eye level, crouch, and shoot stance/shooting method
I own a business in an office building and if I have a defensive situation (God forbid) its going to be close and fast, no time to align front and back sights, its going to be draw --- shoot. Probably from the hip !
This is a great gun for "point shooting" its a natural fit for me
May be I shouldn't even mess with sights. I could take them off and it would be ok in most defensive situations.
There is a ( I think ) a colt commander that has a trough for a sight, kinda like like my 357 snubbie.
I think that would be cool on this gun !!!!!!!
You know I wish the gun wasn't so squarish on the slide and front rail .
just another thought I don't need the light rail don't use a light, never will This gun is a IWB holster or a desantis pocket holster.
I got large pockets a clothing requirement for me.
I got the XD in my pocket and a P-12 45 cal in my desk draw right by my right hand.
Should be enough don't you think ?

anyway I gotta go once again thanks
Jack

The Tru Glo are Tritium and Fiber Optic and are very bright at night and can still be seen during the day. They are low profile so they do not sit high on the slide, I am a big fan of mine.

That's my .2cents.
I just got mine back from Jason Gilbert today. Nice job. I sent it in about a week ago, they got it on Thursday and shipped it out on Friday. Call them about pricing. Great folks to do business with.

That's my .02 too.

I agree, I was completely satified with the order from Gilberts and how fast it got to me.

Sights

I have a set of Heinie Straight eight slant pros on my XD9sc. They are excellent sights. I picked up a Charles Daly Hi-Power clone with XS Big Dot sights. They are growing on me. They may be the best combat sights. Very fast to pickup with me old eyes.

sights

Hey gang,

I went to the range today. A guy let me shoot 2 rounds thu his sig with crimson trace lasers. He had me hold the gun below eye level. I was able to keep the laser pretty steady this time.
I dont know ...a laser is alot of money !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I shot straight 8's on a Kahr I do ok with them. Might be the way to go.
We otta have a club, where you can shoot anybodies gun at the range to try it out. What an experience that would be.
take care
Jack

I have Big Dots on my Hi-Power and they're great. I have a set for my wife's new XD but I can't get the stock sights off. I've beat the snot out of the front sight and it hasn't budged. Even tried putting it in the freezer for a while first. Bent my brass punch in the process.

Still trying to figure this thing out.

I've got TFOs on the XD9SC I carry, couldn't be happier. I have Williams Firesights on my IDPA guns, and they've been great. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably put Firesights on the SC, and keep a flashlight handy. Did break the front sight out of my XD45, but I was shooting under a barricade, and didn't pay attention to recoil. Took me about 5 minutes and a match to replace.
