Question Comparing XD's and Glock's trigger safeties

If I'm not mistaken, Glock has had its fair share of accidental discharges due to the trigger getting caught by clothing or some obstacle while holstering.

I'm aware that both Glock and XD have the same Ultra Safety Assurance system ie. trigger safety that was supposed to prevent these from happening, but is there any real difference between these two guns regarding this specific safety feature?

biggest thing is the grip safety, pull the trigger all you want if the grip safety isnt depressed its not going to release the sear. I think trigger safety vs trigger safety they are pretty similar function wise

As far as I know, both systems operate in the same way. Depressing the trigger safety lever rotates a tab out of the way that blocks the rearward progress of the trigger. The differentiating factor is that the XD has a grip safety in addition to the trigger safety. I would feel perfectly comfortable using a Glock, but I am happy to have the additional safety. However, you negate that advantage if you hold down the grip safety while reholstering. The trick that I use to do that is placing my thumb on top of the striker indicator while reholstering, which ensures that the grip safety is not depressed.

That's basicly the long and short of it. Glock has the trigger safety, but if something engages the safety, then the trigger - discharge. XD has to have the grip safety AND the trigger safety engaged before pulling the trigger allows for a discharge.

The grip safety is the primary reason I chose the XD over other similar guns that I was looking at.

That's what I'm doing at the range. Call me a newb, but I wouldn't feel comfortable holstering a Glock in condition1. It's just too much risk for me there. I would feel the same if XD didn't have a grip safety.

Grip safety is what it is all about. I grew up with the 1911 and learned many years ago. Cocked locked and loaded. Stay away from the grip safety and you will never have a problem. This is why i "love my XD's" and just shoot Glocks when i have to. ( no longer own any Glocks)

The trigger safety in both the Glock and XD are the same. Both useless, IMHO, because anything pressing on the trigger defeats the safety.

I picked up my XD9 Service on monday, my friend just picked up a Glock 19 (9mm) this morning. We spent a couple hours and put about 200 rounds each through our guns, and joined the local gun range and got a membership. Going again in the morning. I fired his Glock, but i love my XD still. Everyone of our friends who fired both the guns today told me they like my gun better, out of my friends ear range of course. Plus the trigger safety alone is kind of stupid. I dont see how the "trigger safety" alone could be effective, if somethings going to snag the trigger and pull it, its going to fire as if there was no "trigger safety" at all? However the addition of the grip safety on the XD makes perfect sense, the guns not going off.

I don't think the trigger safety is really designed to keep you from snagging the trigger. It seems to me that trigger safeties are most useful in stopping the weapon from discharging from inertia if the weapon is dropped.
