New Sights

Installing sights. I've asked before, but I can't find the post. Should I attempt to put on my new sights by myself or fork out the $$ and have a pro do it? Is it hard to do? What is the typical price for having sights installed on an XD40?

i think about $30, i'de take it somewhere, i marred my xd40 a little bit just putting originals back in, they were pretty stubborn. unless you have done a lot and are ready for issues, save the hassle

Either a gunsmith, there are ones on xdtalk who you can ship just the slide to and not pay expensive shipping, or ship it back to SA custom shop. They have very good pricing on new sights and they install them for free, that's what I did for XS Big Dots.

I adjusted my rear XS when I got it back a little, and even with the non-factory sight, I had my slide in a vise between 2 pieces of wood, used a brass fitting I had in the garage to not scratch the metal, and I was really swinging a 2 pound maul to get it to move a tiny amount. Tighter than a clam's a$$ is my best description. Good news is they will not move on you.

Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks.

Since you are asking for help on a public forum, I'll say that YES you should have a GUNSMITH install your sights. If you knew what was involved and were confident in yourself to do the job you wouldn't be asking.

ship it to Gilbert's Guns. They do a great job at a great price and you will have your slide back in a weeks time. They installed some TFOs I purchased from them and installed and return shipping cost a total of $103.45, and you know what folks on this forum have to say about their TFOs.

Send a message via Yahoo to Kaboom
Make sure whoever you send it to has actually done a swap on XDs. Even pros have screwed-up XD sights, they're very tough to deal with if you don't have the right tool.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try out a local gunsmith here, providing they have some XD experience.
