Why don't too many people like or use peep sights? I haven't tried any but I think I would like them. Any downsides?

Let a pro do it, if they can. Those stock sites are no joke to get out.

Seems like they'd be slow for follow ups. Most shooters I know only focus on the front site and prefer not to have anything on the rear to attract the eye.

Exactly which sets of sights are you speaking of?

Thanks, I didn't think about that. I was looking at something like ghost rings.

+1

Spoke to 1 gunsmith here and they said they won't touch XD's so I called another and he said bring it down. He did it for $35 bucks and all went well except the old sights are dinged up too bad to ever use again, which I guess didn't bother me too much because I'm banking on my TFO's lasting a long time.

Point being, if a GS has to pound out those old sights and it takes that much force doing it don't try it yourself unless you really know what you're doing.

The ghost ring concept isn't very good for pistols. The ring needs to be close to your eye to do it's job and "ghost" out of view. Typically, if you do this with a semi auto pistol the slide will hit you in the face when it recoils. If you are looking for a fast acquisition sight, the XS Big Dot is a good place to start.

Thanks, I guess the ring would be better if it were closer, like on my bow.
