XD Tactical California

Are the XD40 Tacticals legal in california? Most of the sales I see listed at GunBroker say they can't ship there but I'm not sure whether its because of the mags or the gun itself.

Also what would be a good price for a tactical or service?

They are legal. I have the Tactical in .40S&W and live in Orange County, CA. The shipping issue you are talking about is most likely because of the magazines as any out of state magazine is going to be over the lame 10 rounds that we're limited to here in CA. I got mine for $552 before tax, fees, etc...

Always, look at the California DOJ roster of handguns. That will clue you in. Also, when using Gun Broker, keep in mind to look at the magazine capacity of the models you're interested in. Anything greater than 10 rounds will automaticaly be rejected for California sales.

+1 I have the 5" .40 here in central Cal.

If they have the night nights you can't get them. 3 dot only.

Why would night sights make a gun illlegal?
makes no sense to me

the reason , like others said, that the gunbroker ones are illegal is because they have the high cap mags included

California takes their sweet time approving firearms lists.
A certain model may - for example- be approved in every configuration submitted by the manufacturer but it may exclude, let's say a "bitone" variant.
These approval decisions are at times pretty weird
For example- the Sig Sauer Mosquito .22 pistol is approved in several variants yet the 5" barreled version is not........??

Most of the auctions on gunbroker are illegal for California, at least the cheap ones. I've seen prices in the 400s or even 300s for the XD40 quoted on this forum. Where can I find prices like that?...best I've found are close to 500 or more.

Every different and separate model number must be submitted to CA DOJ for approval, at a $ cost to the manufacturer. SA decided it was not a good return on investment to submit all model numbers for the CA market, I think that is what happens.

That is my understanding as well, the Part number they use for the night sight models weren't submitted.
