GOTXD? not any more link for pics added
I am getting rid of my XD 45. I am trading it for a Springfield G.I. 45 apc. This has been a good place for info on the XD. I just got tired of the wieght with the full mags and the grip length on the XD. I was uncomfortable with the weight while it was CCW. Some day I will probally buy another but now I say so long to it.
Here is the new pistol I got in the trade. The slim grip feels better than the XD. Sure it may be the same wieght but it will put a lump on your head if needed. 1911009.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Last edited by GotXD : 05-27-2008 at 07:30 AM. |

If you come back to the XD platform take a look at the SC 9mm to shed some weight. Mine is not uncomfortable for CCW, even on very long days. Best of luck with the 1911...

im not knocking your choice, but if CCW is your goal then it doesnt seem that you are really changing weight and dimensions a whole lot. . .

I don't see how getting rid of a polymer frame and replacing it with a metal frame is going to help you shed weight, but okay. Maybe because it has a lower capacity and is a bit thinner?
Good luck with your choice.

Hey guys, everyone isn't a perfect fit for an XD.
Some guys do like other handguns for different reasons. GotXD, You don't have to leave just because you are trading it.

Reality Check.
From Springfield's Website, The 1911 Milspec 45 is 8.5 inches long, 5.5 inches high and weighs 39 oz empty. Add 9 rounds (figuring 8 round magazine, obviously) of 45acp 230 hardball @ .75oz per rd (331gr), you get a fully loaded weight of 45.75 oz. The XD 45 Tactical is 8.3 inches long, 5.75 inches high and weighs 32 oz empty. Add 14 rounds of 45acp 230 hardball @ .75oz per round (331gr), you get a fully loaded weight of 42.5 oz. Don't have the width figures handy, but as you can see, the Tactical is .2 inches shorter, .25 inches taller and 3.25oz lighter, while carrying 5 more rounds of ammo. Perceptions may differ but measurements don't lie. The XD wins this bout. (However, my Colt Defender Plus has the same capacity as the Milspec, but weighs 22.5oz empty and 29.5oz fully loaded, is 6.75 inches long and is the same height. That's another argument, though.... )

All those specs are true but hey you know what they say about opions? Opions are like Aholes everybodys got one. My opion is to go back to the full metal 1911 handgun. To me it feels better in my hand and lighter to me.
