Always better to go shooting with someone.
Too bad about the twins, I wish my wife would go shooting with me like she use to when we were in college...then we had KIDS...

I've learned the hard way to never shoot with my shirt tucked in (like going to the range after work).
Man, try emptying a full 16 rounds and then realizing about 3/4 of them are stuck in between your shirt and tummy. Takes a few seconds...but then hurts like a bitch! I love being a southpaw

My wife likes to shoot but hasn't much lately. I am working the night shift right now and we have had some weirdos coming by our house and the neighbors late at night asking for gas. About three weeks ago the door bell rang at 2AM. I was off that night and we were both still up (lights on in the house and all). Some girl who looked like a crack head was at the door asking for gas. I put my Browning Hi-Power in my back pocket (the back door go to gun, XD was in the range bag from the day earlier still) before I went outside to give her some gas. Thought maybe there could be some others out there waiting for someone to come out of the house. I may be paranoid.......but you never know. Gave her some mower gas and she was on her way.
My wife now wants to go shooting again. I am taking her to the nieces and nephews trailers this weekend where they have a shooting range set up. Told her if anyone asks for gas late at night and I am not home just tell them the Lorain County Sheriff's Dept. is about 1 mile down the street and they will give you gas. Don't know if they will or not but that is what I told her to tell them. Also told her to tell them she will call ahead and let them know they are on the way. Looking forward to this weekend when I can get her out shooting again. |

I told her she might like it better if shed open her eyes when she shoots....she said its scary so she points the gun and closes her eyes. My targets are on plywood about 3ft x 2ft and she missed the wood all together and shot down a tree branch above the target board.
The main reason I wanted her to learn to shoot is I work night shift (7am-7pm) and we have two young children in the house, shes always talking about how shes afraid to be home alone...but yet wont shoot a gun. I don't know what Ill do. Maybe get her a slingshot |

Maybe a 20ga. Leave it unchambered (per kids). That should give her a little security..........

My wife wants a .22 pistol. I was thinking about the P22...but what's this about the brass ejecting towards the shooter? Does the P22 have a rep for ejecting into your face (or chest)?
I don't have a ton of experience with guns, but my XD9 spits them straight to the right. No chance that the brass will hit me in the face (unless there's a LOT of wind or a wall nearby). Am I just lucky? Here's my wife shooting my XD a couple weeks ago. She's a much better shot than I am...I blame it on her eyes.

If you are looking for a good .22 pistol check out the Beretta Neos. I think it shoots better than the P22 and its not a .22 masquerading as a 'tactical' style pistol, its simply a accurate target/plinking gun. Perfect for days at the range or entry level competition. I am not saying the P22 is not a good plinker, I just think the Neos shoots better, is more accurate, and happens to cost less. We have one with a 4.5" and a 6" barrel and it is quite fun to shoot...as a bonus it loves the cheap-o Federal bulk from Walmart ($12 for 550) which makes it a really cheap date. If you are in the market for a 22 its worth checking out, not that you can go wrong with the P22 or another similar 22, they are pretty much all fun to shoot. Beretta .22 Neos |

First, both of you are lucky barstewards and have hot wives. Just an observation; not coveting 'cause I'm also a lucky barsteward and have a hot wife of my own.
Second, both of them have their weak hand with the thumb wrapping over the strong hand and are in danger of getting a bit of slide-bite. Having the slide draw blood will for sure discourage a beginning shooter who's trepidatious to begin with. My wife does shoot and for her birthday a couple weeks ago got her own M&P .45. Life's been a bit busy lately and we haven't gotten it to the range yet. We may get to the range this weekend, though. The only problem is spending the money to feed my XD .45 AND now her M&P .45. But at least we'll be shooting!

You're totally right Pugs- I can't attribute finding my wife to anything but luck.
You're also right about that thumb creeping over--i convinced my mom (who hates guns and thought I'd be dead the day after i bought my xd...even if i never took it out of the case) to go shoot a few rounds when she came down to visit. Before I noticed how she was gripping, she took a few shots and the slide mashed her thumb pretty good. Drew a little blood, but mostly just turned it nice and blue. Needless to say, she still doesn't like guns. BOFH- Thanks for the tip on the Neo. Gotta say it looks like something out of a sci-fi movie, but I'll definitely look into it, especially if you'd recommend it over the P22. |
