Small scratch in my Duracoat

Went to the range today at lunch to do a little shooting. At one point I had emptied a magazine, and had the slide locked back on my XD40 service. I was letting it cool off for a minute before taking the 357 barrel out of it to put the 40 barrel back in. I slid the lever up to strip it, and was going to disassemble it when it got caught. I must have somehow bumped the lever when I was disassembling it and it rotated forward slightly. It left a tiny little scratch in the duracoat. But this is the first time anything has happened to it in about 2 years. I'll take that over the stock finish any day of the week.

If that is the first scratch in the duracoat you have received in 2 years, then you are doing well.

Had my slide DuraCoated a year ago and it has many little dings and scratches on it. It's not near as tough as what was told to me. But hey, if it always looked perfect you wouldn't think it was ever shot.

I scratched my stainless slide a few times doing almost the exact same thing, before I figured out what I was doing wrong. Sucks but what can you do...

That was what it looked like when I got it back. And until today at lunch, it looked exactly like that. The scratch is very minor. You probably wouldn't even notice it at first glance. Oh well, gives it character.

Not much. And I had been fairly careful with it. I didn't baby it, but for a carry gun, it has held up pretty well.

Doesn't Duracoat offer a clear-coat finish too? You know, a clear paint to go over your colored Duracoat?

Does the duracoat go over the Melonite finish thats standard now days? Where can you get it done? What are the benefits and cost?

From what I know, if you have the melonite process, you won't need anything like duracoat, unless you just want to change the color of the slide.

But for the benefits and cost, forum sponsor AJames at XD-HS2000 does it for a reasonable price. The benefits are a durable finish that will protect the slide from rusting.
