Xd 40 V-10

Ok being new to XD pistols can anyone give me yay or nay opinions on this? Spotted one this morning for $380 with FO sights and an extra mag. It has definately been used but doesn't look too bad. Needs a good cleaning for sure.

Thanks,
Bill

The V10 fell out of favor with the problems encountered with the cracks in the locking block on early models. Springfield has a fix which basically creates a radius in the corners to eliminate the weakness of a sharp corner. The price isn't bad for a used XD but your description sounds like is has some wear issues. This is probably a pre-melonite gun so you so you will probably want to have it refinished. I honestly don't think the porting does very much for the gun and buy the time you add the cost of refinishing you could get a new XD of you choice. On the other hand if you are looking to build a gun and get the price down another $50 you can buy an after market barrel, a Powder River Kit and some springs and you will have a good range/comp. gun that you won't mind beating up.

That's just my opinion.

rgeliske,

Thanks for the input. I had the BG check run yesterday for it but I passed on actually buying. the BG check is good for 30 days here so I can wait a bit. I figured I wait to see if the price dropped a bit. And if someone else takes it well that's ok too. Same owner has a 45 bi-tone he's dropped from 450 to 420 in the past week. That one looks brand new.

Grab it, the V10 porting does make a HUGE difference in the 40 cal. In 9mm, not so much, but in 40 it all but eliminates the muzzle flip and makes it a ton of fun to shoot.

I like my XD40 V10 more than my XD9SC honestly.

I loved it so much that I even customized mine...

BanditSRT8 should be able to tell you more about the early V10 issues and his V10 is a great example of what you can do with a gun that has some wear. There is something to be said for personalizing a gun and making it all your own. I'd feel a little strange pulling it to stop a would be attacker but it's still a very unique eye catching XD.

Well... I don't know about wear. I bought it new, shot about 100 rounds through it, then shipped it off for the custom work. So far, so good though.

This was bought purely as a range toy, and will not be a carry gun. I typically do not modify any of my carry pieces, I'm just paranoid like that.

The more I think about it maybe something in yellow or red might distract the bad guy enough to give me a slight advantage. It really is a very nice looking gun, good choice of color and design effect.

Thanks for the resonses guys. I decided to pass on it. There was just something about it that I can't quite put my finger on that told me no. I think it might have been the dawson sights on it, or the way the factory sights were thrown in the box and were beat to hell. I mean one side if them was nicely mushroomed from a punch. Something just didn't seem right. Almost like everything felt sloppy. I was porbably being a bit too critical but I can be like that. So the hunt goes on.

Drove up to a new gun shop 60 miles away and was really impressed with the selection of XDs and almost used prices for new guns. So I'll have a ready supply when I bite the bullet. In the mean time I'll continue to shoot the wifes SC9.

BanditSRT8,

Tell me it's a Magnum not a C, Charger or that J word....

Shame it worked out that way. Just have your shop order you a V10 or hit Buds online, trust me you'll love it.

Yes, my SRT8 is a Magnum. I also have a new Shelby GT500... I likes my speed LOL
