I like the new design and was excited about it till I saw it was going to be $600. At that price point I'm not even considering it. I think the masses will stick with the regular XD and the XDM will be a smaller market indeed. Hopefully this was Springfield's plan all along.
HAHA, don't let me get into the ~$750 HK USP, LOL or the process by which NYC residents must go through in order to touch a handgun (approx $439 just for the first 3 years of the license with a 6-8 month approval time frame.) Now carrying a handgun is a whole different ballpark.

After shooting the XDM in black and bi-tone, I wanted the bi-tone one. I had my plastic out ready to roll with it and a FFL in hand but it was a dealer sample so I was denied. After some thought about the gun on the way back from the preview, I just could not because of my college tuition bill.

Although the XD has proven to be a very good pistol, and it is finally getting true recognition, you can't even begin to put any XD in the same stratusphere as Sig or H&K, by the way I paid 640.99 for my USP 9mm brand new from CDNN, but the USP has been around for 15 years and has a proven track record, not to mention it's iconic look, same for the Sig 226, and both of the above mentioned weapons are built using very expensive German labor as opposed to much cheaper eastern european labor. The XD-M at that price will not sell well in the long run. I'll stick with my little old XD9 SC...

I just saw my first XD-M and the shop wanted over $600 for it. Too rich for my blood. The slide being rounded off and narrower is interesting, felt good in the hand, and I sure wish my XD had the same mag release button as the XDm. That button is so much easier to use. But when I can pay $475 for an XD45 tactical black, I'll go with the XD.

I would lump it with HK under the field of polymer frame pistol. I did pay just shy of $750 for mine out the door but that is in NYC (and that is dealer price + tax + a trigger lock and a lock box to get the darn thing registered, quite different gun market than La.) I could have ordered from else where for cheaper like CDNN or Summit Gun broker but would have been hit with the $75 transfer fee and storage fees because it takes 3+ months to get a slip of paper saying I can purchase another handgun. I apologize if I am venting at the awkward and expensive hobby of maintaining my permits.

Getting into specifics they are within the $500-$800 price range for XD/entry Sigs/entry HK's. Track record may be one thing (XD is kind of new) but not really that much for labor, a name also increases the price of a gun.

I'll stick with my service Glock 19 with 12.5 pound trigger.

I was just a shop here in Tulsa, and the one XDM they had was a bi-tone for $718 . I thought that was a bit steep

To me the price increase is worth it if your into competition since this is what the XDM was made for. If your looking for an excellent pistol for anything but competition than the XD is the one.The XDM just gives you all the competition upgrades from the factory. The fact that the original mags won't work in the XDM is a big minus IMO.

ETA: Handled an XDM at a local shop. They wanted almost $800 for the HC and around $720 for the blued. Other than the larger space between the grip bumps I felt no difference in the XDM and the regular XD. The top of the slide did'nt feel any better to grasp when working the slide nor did the trigger. The match grade barrel will probably help with accuracy but if I want that feature I'll buy an aftermarket one.

The bull****, local gun shop around here had a bitone in and they want $800+tax (856 total OTD). I was going to throw them some ****, but then I have no intentions to buy a .40 so I let it go.

I hate this gun shop and I always have to wheel and deal to buy a gun from them. Unfortunately, its the only shop in this area so I deal with it.

Aside from that I do like the gun a lot. I really hope they come out with a 9mm compact/sub compact. I am not in to the full size guns though. I mostly purchase with concealment in mind. I have the shotty/AR for home purposes =D.

The XDm really is a step above the standard XD, and the standard XD is a great gun. The accuracy, the stock sights, capacity, and backstraps are the most noticeable improvements to me.

But as Loves2Shoot has been saying, I hate the new trigger. More specifically, the trigger pull seems really heavy. To accomplish the new disassembly, they added more parts to the trigger assembly. Its never good to make a machine more complex (more things to possibly go wrong). The trigger feels very stiff right now, but it may loosen up after I break it in, as my other XDs have.

Oh yeah, I paid $625 for my Bi-tone.

youre probably just used to broken in triggers on your previous XDs. My SC trigger feels stiffer but its about 500 rounds behind my service which is getting smoother
