A little help please
Newb here. I need some help choosing my first hand gun. I've got it narrowed down to an XD 9mm or a Glock-17. I'm assuming everyone here would throw their vote towards the XD and thats fine. I like both, but the XD just feels a bit more natural in my hand and quite frankly looks a bit more bad a$$ if you ask me. That said I could get some nice used Glocks for around $350, but I have yet to find an XD under $400. what are some good sites that I may be able to pick up a nice used XD for a decent price.
Thanks, implode |

If the XD fit in your hand better, then there is your answer.
This forum tends to be more opened minded than other (glocktalk) forums. Most of us feel, whatever gun fits your needs (grip comfort, caliber, # of rounds, etc) is the best gun for you, no matter who manufactures it. Many people here own multiple kinds of firearms. Although we all have our favorites, your fave and my fave may not be the same, and that is fine. I sold my Glock 26 that I carried for 10 years and bought my XD9sc. The XD fit my hand better. A month later I bought my XD45 compact. You should probably expect to pay $450 to $500 for a new XD. Sometimes you can find them for sale here on the forum. I sold one of mine here last year. Perhaps others here can help you find a place for used guns. GunsAmerica - Search - Guns For Sale & Gun Auctions Welcome to the forum from Dallas TEXAS

Just thought I'd say that I agree with everything 1 lowlife just said.
I will say that the one thing most people dont like about the glock is the angle of the grip. I dont find it to be very comfortable. It is a good quality firearm though.

I bought a used XD9 from a friend. It had everything it came with originally (was a few years old, came with two 15 round mags) and he threw in a loader and two boxes of ammunition for $400.
If you're looking for something used I would suggest seeing if there is a local gun forum you can register on with a for sale section and keep your eye on the for sale section here too. While not a lot, there seems to be a person or two selling an XD at most times on my local forum.

Either the Glock or the XD will perform well for you. I would suggest that you consider two things: Which is more comfortable for you, and if you plan on shooting IDPA. If rules are enforced, you must shoot ESP, not SSP, if you choose the XD, it being a single action pistol. Glocks can shoot under SSP because they're Safe action, instead. It's a shame, really, I'd love to see an IDPA Glock VS XD shootout.
I'd suggest you go to a range where you can rent them both, and try them out. I've noticed that the Glock feels better once you actually shoot it. But it may feel worse, too, so it's all a matter of opinion. Try them both and use the gun that suits you best, and you'll be all set. Be sure to get a few extra hi-cap mags, incase Osamabama or Hitlery become president. EDIT: To where I said "It's a shame, really, I'd love to see an IDPA Glock VS XD shootout.", it is possible for the Glock to compete in ESP, as listed in the official IDPA rulebook. Quote:
