I've got about 3000 rounds through the "M" now. Still LOVE it. Anyone thinking about it still......DO IT. These are sweet pistols. It's making me neglect my other guns.

if your looking for magazines for the XD-M look no further than Guns for Sale . i placed an order with them for 3 extra mags last wednesday around 2 in the afternoon. to may surprise my order was on my porch friday when i got home from work. and that was with regular shipping. i am very happy with the people at BUDS and i will definately be using them in the future. by the way the total with $10 insurance(optional) was only $81.07 shipped. you cant beat that. good luck and happy shooting! |

hi, i just joined and this is my first post. Of all the reading i've tried to do on the new xdm, this forum has given me more info from people that have really shot the gun than about all others put togeather. I thank you all for that.
I had been thinking about getting a xd 9 5" tactical model, and then I was suprised to find out about the "M". It seems to adress all the small issues that I had about the regular xd: grip texture(I had only been able to shoot a 4" in 357 sig, and 2 of the 3 sessions it was raining or misting), grip size(i have smaller hands and my girlfriend will be shooting the gun also) and trigger travel and reset(i thought it was still good, just not really good, and I was shooting some nice 1911's along side it). I guess my question is kind of hard to answer but anyway: How much percived recoil would you say the new xdm .40 has compared to a xd 4" in 357 sig? I'm still not sure weather to go with a 5" 9 or the new M, and ammo cost ,muzzle flip(mostly because of girlfrield), and grip size are the biggest things i'm trying to way against each other. Wish I could go rent one, but I live in the north of Wisconsin, and we don't have any shops that rent anywhere close at all. None of the shops here even have sceen an "M" yet. Thanks again for all your good posts. |

If Springfield would just go ahead and make me a xdm 9 I would not have anything to think about at all....

Why do you (and others) prefer the 9 over the 40?

Hi Shanon and welcome to the forum.
Can't speak for others, but for me. I prefer the lower recoil and PRICE of the 9mm ammo. With the price of all ammo going up like it is you get more range time with 9mm. You also get more rounds in a mag most of the time. And there is truth to the lower recoil thing. There are many 9mm rounds that are as good as a 40S&W, though these rounds will cost you more and have a heavier recoil than standard 9mm, you can still get good 9mm ammo and load up one mag and have plenty of protection for yourself and your loved ones.

To me it's mostly about the $money, I just got back from my favorite nearby sandpit and all I shot today was .22 because it's a cheap way to shoot a whole bunch of rounds and i don't have much extra money to burn. I don't reload.
9's have a little higher capacity so a few more rounds between reloads, and like he said: the premium defensive rounds do alot better than the stuff the military has to use as standard, i've heard it has something to do with the geneva convention or some such, but if you ask me it's just plain stupid they cant use bullets designed to "cause excess damage". |

Thanks for the info. I currently don't have a gun, I did pass my CCW class and applied for my license a few weeks ago. I been pretty lucky shooting a bunch of different weapons. So far my favorite has been the XDm.
The only 9mm I have been able to shoot have been sub compacts and I would prefer a full size gun. |

Shannon:
Don't listen to me though, I don't know that much about pistols or balistics at all compared to most of the people on the forum. Alot of people swear by .40, and 16 rounds of .40 in the xdm is a ton. |
