I believe the metal scratched initially by just rubbing against the metal handle. Looking at it closer we found that even the plastic bristle could scratch thru the melonite.

Melonite is a great finish, but it's gonna scratch if rubbed enough. The same thing would happen with any finish.

Did Phil give you an idea on how long it would be before he gets his hands on another?
It definitely wasn't normal. I have 5 XDs so I know what to expect. There was definitely something not right.

I didn't ask Phil when he was getting another black one in. He mentioned that it would probably be a week or 2 before he got any bi-tones in.

Someone tried to break in to Phil's place Wednesday night. They tried to drive a truck thru the back wall. They didn't get in, but caused a lot of damage. He was pretty fired up about it when I talked to him this morning (I don't blame him).

I'll have to take some new ones. The red one in my avatar has been Cobra Chromed now.

video of Springfield Armory's new XDm pistol

Exciting video of Springfield Armory's new XDm pistol, presented by many-time national shooting champion Rob Leatham, can be viewed online at Gun Talk TV. Click Here to view or visitwww.guntalk.tv and go to "New Releases" in the video library. At the NRA Annual Meetings today, Springfield Armory announces the latest in the XD line, a pistol with so many new features that Springfield is calling it a completely new category.

Not if they are soaked in acid first

Dude, that sucks!!! Plastic scratching Melonite? That's like glass trying to cut a diamond!
