Yeah bud I think your right, but I will hold out for the 45.

Your dealer. Ask Phil about it. It was the black one he got in today. Your bi-tone isn't in yet.

The first thing Phil said was "I got your gun, but you're not going to want it."

In their ads one of the "M"s is for Melonite.

From Shooting Wire - Upscale Model of XD-M?

As promised, Springfield Armory is showing their new category of XD pistols. This newest model is called the XD-M, and S-A marketers say the M stands for "More". And it offers more when compared to the previous XD models.

Springfield XD-M
The new version has a variety of changes, from new sharper cuts fore/aft in the slide for an easier, more ergonomic cocking motion to a slimmed-down .40 caliber that can hold 16 rounds in the magazine while still staying slim. The XD-M also has three adjustable backstraps to take it from a size that's comparable to their 9mm XD all the way up to the same grip dimensions as the .45 XD. It also has a new trigger, and this one feels fairly smooth, with a very short reset and equally small length of pull. I talked with Rob Leatham, Springfield Armory's competition shooter for nearly two decades about the XD-M last month, and he says that he thinks it's about the perfect pistol for everyone with small hands, and the backstraps make it easily adapted for everyone. That's a plus to individuals, but a true selling point with armorers when fitting a force of officers.

Rob also talked about some of the features that might not be so obvious, but add to the usefulness of the XD-M. The mag release button is larger, but the pistol is designed so that the ease of release isn't an accidental thing. Slightly recessing the button and creating a relief area around it makes dropping it easy- on purpose – even with gloves.

And S-A says their Tru-Mold grip texture will help you hang onto the XD-M even if your hands are wet. There's a lot to like about this pistol, but the accessory that most wound me up was the case it comes in. Sure, there's a holster, twin mag pouch, requisite locking device, a loading tool (a thumb-saver), but for a case freak like me, the gun box it comes in is a way-cool factor. This one looks like the high-performance plastic cases made by Pelican and others, and it's large enough that you could pull out the pistol gear and carry your computer or other gear in there. The big Springfield Armory logo on the lid would probably be an incentive for potential muggers to just keep moving, too.

No definitive word on when the XD-M will be hitting markets, but it looks as if the price will be comparable with the XD and there will be an XD-M upscale model available as well.

(Emphasis is mine) - atmiller

Man, that really sucks. I hate to hear that.

Melonite is a great finish, but it's gonna scratch if rubbed enough. The same thing would happen with any finish.

Did Phil give you an idea on how long it would be before he gets his hands on another?

Plastic bristles scratched the slide? Not the metal of the brush? That's odd.

I was wondering why he hadn't called me today. I told him to give me a call when the all black version came in, unless he already had a buyer. I thought about buying it, and polishing all the pins, mag release, slide release, slide stop, grip safety and barrel. I did that to one of my current XD's, and I really like the way it turned out.
