WHAT'S a lot of extra money???

Do you think these guns will stay that high?
It's a new product. It's common for them to go at or near retail prices at first.
No doubt, the prices will come down some after these guns are available widely and the "new" wears off.

I think it's sad to say that SA is simply selling "gimmicks"- especially when folks haven't even shot the gun.

The slide tapering DOES make sense- whether it makes a big difference for an particular individual or not.
I would think a narrower slide top would just make the gun "look" slimmer for the shooter(while shooting) - similar to a 1911 (if you will) or other narrower gun.
I used to own some 1911's, and that blocky fatter slide top of the XD took a little getting used to for me.

BTW- how much does a Barsto barrel add to the cost of an XD now?
I don't think the price is out of line.
I agree that not pulling the trigger to disassemble the gun is meaningless.

Overall, I like the gun. I can say that I'd have no reservations about buying that gun in a .45.

What WOULD it take for some to accept this as a NEW gun?
A complete redesign?
If we all like the original XD so much, (and we do) then let's be glad they didn't completely redesign it, but maybe just made some good refinements to a great gun.

Also, if Scott does a trigger job and really likes the gun, I think I'll take a GM status shooters opinion any time. Sounds like a trigger job away from being a sweet shooter!

Eh....i'm not really sold on it.

The original XD model with a match barrel, dawson sights, and practice is just as good as the new M. I know the price will drop eventually which may spark my interest a little more.

Alright, the XD-M is ugly. Freaking ugly. I can't stand to look at it.

Except I'm tempted to give it a try anyway. Reduced take-up and reset on the trigger and the match grade barrel are worth seriously looking into.

The other stuff is just "we wish we were the M&P" happening -- right down to the M&P's ugliness.

Trigger and barrel = everything.

Ugliness may actually mean better.

"Haha! You just got shot with an ugly gun! Now you're hurt AND humiliated! S'what you get for trying to eat my children."

The new XD-M has the same cheesy stamped sheet-metal ejector that they are now installing in 2008 XD models. I think I will pass on the XD-M for this and other reasons. I don't like paying more for a gun with el cheapo parts. Where is the Value??? I won't be buying anymore XD's either. My brand new 2008 XD-45 Compact shipped with a cheesy loose-fitting stamped ejector. I replaced it myself at my own expense. If Springfield is using cheaper parts and raising prices, that means some exec is getting richer and we are getting inferior guns at inflated prices.

All it would take for me to accept the gun is the longer barrel (not match) and slide (with the new contour and sights), keep the same grip (no inserts) and the same length (yeah, same capacity), add a thumb safety, and don't add the extra money for a match barrel. I'd buy it then.

In reality, though, I'd accept the XD-m as is, if it didn't have the match barrel and associated extra cost. I could overlook the rest of the things I don't like for less money. But i'd still prefer a thumb safety, for something really different.

On the trigger jobs, I can do them right off the bat, but I'm decide HOW I want to do it. Most likely I will remove the "take down" feature, as it adds a bunch of crap for little reward. Who really can't pull the trigger to take the slide off and want 5 more pieces in their fire control system besides bean counters who aren't shooters?

The XDm did shoot really nice and I do think it will make a nice addition to the XD line.

People who know what SA specifically plans on doing are NOT likely to be announcing it on public forums before it is approved to do so. I know SA folks visit this forum, and you don't see them posting their future plans.

I think Tom's reply and disclaimer cleared up his opinion about what is "likely" a bit.

So, having shot this gun, what's your opinion on the mag release grooves?
Do you find it easier to drop the mag on the new gun?

I'm also interested in that reconfigured slide release. Is it easier to actuate than the older flat unit?
My thumb is just short enough that dropping the slide release with my thumb is kind of hard if I don't do it just right.

and what's the scoop on the stamped ejector that ricer was talking about?
Any concerns there? I'm not sure which part he's talking about there...

Thanks!

The grip fit me better, I don't know the grooves do anything for me, but I use an extended release anyway on the XD and would use one on the XDm.

The slide release is nice and I like the profile of the take down lever better also.

The ejector is the same one they use in the XD models and I have had no issues of it not working as well as the cast part.

Looks like a XD had relations with a S&W M&P pistol, then a Taurus came along and asked to join in the fun.... ick, no thanks.
