I was gonna stop by there, too. As I was heading that way, the boss man called me for an extra stop. I've had my mind set on the bi-tone, but after thinking about it, I may like the all black version just as well. My current XD's are all black, and I like them fine. I guess I'll make up my mind sooner or later.

There's not a whole lot you can do to a GREAT gun like the XD.
The grip (as I understand it) is a different material than the current XD, and while it does look different, it's the ONLY thing that I could see some having a problem with aesthetically.
Others will like it.
If it had the same grip as the older models, I think everyone would be singing it's praises, since the slide is more "melted" now and the other features have real merit too.

If I were shooting a .40 service or tactical, I would most likely be getting in on the first round.

While they won't likely admit it, how much ya wanna bet that a fair number of the poo-poo mongers here will buy one of these guns later...?
I agree. Stop bashing it and wait for the numbers to come in. Or wait until TGO puts up a video saying how awesome it is. Then everyone will love it. Apparently SA has been working on this for 2 years. So it's not like they just threw it together. This thing will be a force to be reckoned with.

Also.... Reduced trigger reset, shortened length of pull, lower bore axis/higher hand position...

This makes it a better competition gun.

That said, I already had a Competition Trigger job on my XD45 Service from SA Custom Shop...

I got one in today and I'll chime in with my 2 cents worth.

Yes, the new trigger system SUCKS. A bunch of BS added because people didn't like pulling the trigger to take the slide off. Somebody really blew it there. Once they become USPSA legal for limited, I'll take all that BS out and make a trigger system that makes sense.

Putting 3 dots on the sights took away from the addition of nice serrations and better proportions.

The trigger is not better either, actually all the other suckyness added to it, it is virtually the same as the other models. I did a trigger job and it can be made nice, but it isn't nice the way it came.

I do like the grip better, and the styling of the slide. I like they increased the slide length so you can use standard springs (it is basically a shorter .45 guide rod and spring.) I like the take down and slide release levers better also.

It will hold 20 rounds of .40 with a base pad I modified in a 140mm configuration and the PG mag well looks like will fit with some minor fitting.

I'll be posting some photos on my website.

In all, the ALMOST did it right IMO.

Photos would be great, lots of photos of the internal would be excellent. What magazine extension did you use to create your 20rd magazines. I am definitely going to be getting and XD-M to make a Limited gun out of it. If I don't have to make extensions from scratch all the better. Measurement of the grip thickness and depth front to back compared to the existing XD-9/40 frame would also be interesting info to see.

Thanks
mcb

So they [SA] lied about these changes? According to their website, they made changes to the trigger.

"The new XD(M)™ trigger has the shortest travel than any currently available polymer pistol along with a similarly short reset which keeps you on target with greater ease for faster, more accurate follow-up shots."

I'm not doubting you, but I'd hate to know that SA is flat out lying to me about the new changes.
