SA says the this will not replace the current XD but will be another option. No word yet on other calibers. It will be formally introduced at the NRA show.

dont know how i feel about the looks, but i like the increased capacity.... gonna have to check them out for sure

I'm glad to hear that it is not going to replace the current modle, but would be interested in hearing more about it when people are able to get their hands on it and shoot it...hell I would like to get my hands on it and shoot it lol.

They're going to loose a lot of supporters because of this. This is ugly and unnecessary. Glock wouldn't pull this kind of crap. This new XD has lost its unique character and now looks like every other new polymer pistol (M&P etc..).

Yeah, Glock says "you better damn well be happy with what we give you". Their solution to helping guns fit different sized people's hands is to create the SF frame for two .45 models. Yeah. Ok.

Springfield has just fixed a design flaw on my XD .40 Service. This newly designed XD is a joke and has just pushed me over the edge. I have been slowly selling off my XD's to buy Glocks. I don't believe in the "next best thing" model of business. I say stick with one thing and do it better than anyone else. I'm done. Ridiculous. And I'm not the only one that feels like this.

Aesthetics aside, if people want interchangeable backstraps and higher capacity, why not listen to them? That to me is upping your game and being more competitive; i.e. doing it better.

As long as they keep the old versions I'm fine; I don't care about a hi-cap 40, it doesn't do me any good.

I don't see any major problems with it. No one every likes change, especially something that is drastically different in appearance.

I for one like the deeper ridges around the grip. I also like the increased capacity of the .40 model. It always bothered me how the .40 held less rounds than the .45, due tot he fact that it was built off of the 9mm frame.

I am looking forward to seeing this in a 9mm tactical model.

I agree with you 100% about Glock not coming up with anything useful for different sized hands. They're far from "perfection" BUT they've maintained their character/originality over the years. I believe you can satisfy customer's demands without cheapening a solid design. That's why I'm angry at Springfield. The new design looks like an M&P and not like an XD! It looks cheap (low class). At least the new modular Sig still looks like a "Sig" and not like some bastard child.

Change is fine. Change whatever you want but DON'T change the overall look/character of the product. Especially when it's new as it is and without consulting your main test group.
