They forgot several M's:
Marketing Major price increase I'll bet that the reason that SA consulted nobody on XD Talk about the new model is due to the resounding negativity in this thread. Real shame that almost everyone here is being closed-minded. I am glad that SA is not resting on their laurels, and trying to increase their polymer pistol market share. Time will tell if they are correct with this new design. Jamie Last edited by Jamie B : 05-09-2008 at 04:31 PM. |

Does it have polygonal rifling?; compared to the current XD land/groove rifling.

Springfield stated that the grip is designed for function, not looks. Almost like they were directly addressing the most common complaint I've heard from those who don't like the M.

I find it amazing that these things are out already. I really need a HD shotgun but I want an XDM too. There's one on GB already and it sounds like some dealers have them in stock as of today. I didn't realize when I started getting into guns about 4 months ago how addicting this stuff is. I bought a XD9SC a month ago and now I want a HD shotgun and an AR and a XDM. Make it stop.

Okay this may not be well argued or make any sense but here goes.
Maybe the XD-M is the response to several Police departments deciding they wanted a different duty weapon because the XD didn't have an adjustable backstrap. I remember the article about several police departments deciding to get rid of their old duty pistols and go with a brand new one. They ended up going with either the Beretta Storm or the S&W M&P because one of the features not on the XD that both of those pistols had was replaceable backstraps for bigger and smaller hands. Now with a backstrap maybe police sales might rise. The .40S&W is a popular police round and 4.5 inch barrel is an average for law enforcement duty weapons. This might be to make the XD line even more marketable toi the LE community. And some people might prefer the option and the looks of the XD-M over the regular XDs.
