Come on guys, all that money spent on design and tooling? The XDM-40 is an experiment, if people like it ( and the ball seems to be rolling in that direction ) it will come out in all calibers and sizes ( but no 10mm and no 45ACP Sub-Compact ).

![]() The top image is what the present XD-40 magazine looks like in cross section because of stuffing 40S&W round into a magazine that has the same internal width as a 9mm magazine. As you can see you do not get a true double stack. The next image is 16rds of 40S&W in a true double stack as we expect in the XD-M The last image is 18rds of 9x19mm in a true double stack. The box around the 18rds of 9mm is the same length left to right at the box around the 16rd of double stack 40S&W for comparison. Note: The box around the 12rd of 40S&W is slightly longer. I also did not take into account the magazine taper at the top where the feed lips are. So although it appears the 18rd of 9mm is longer than 16rd of 40S&W I think that by the time you take the taper into account you will get that 18th round of 9mm in there. Rambling mcb |

Hmmmm....
sure is pretty. I think I would have to pass on it. Too much 'Not an XD' to me.

To me its more the idea that it offers no advantage to my 2 favorite calibers yet which is 9mm and.45. Even if they did it offers no more features and to be honest the XD does not need any more. The other point I'm not getting it this 4.5inch barrel version is 1oz heavier than the Tactical model. When I see one in my local shop I'll ask to see it just to get the idea of the difference and reserve final judgment in the way it feels.
ETA: One thing for sure though is at least SA is offering something new unlike Glock. Last edited by Nakanokalronin; 05-08-2008 at 11:22 PM. Reason: Add comment |
