XD40 issues
Well I went to the range today with my XD40 Service. I was firing it today in preparation for my CCW class next Saturday. I wanted to see how it would feel to fire it one handed with my offhand.
Put another 200 rounds through her today with zero FTF, FTE, etc. (freakin $1200 paperweight, errr, Kimber can't manage that). I did, however, notice that it failed to lock back on every magazine. I previously placed a 22 lb recoil spring in it and now I'm wondering if that is what's doing it. I also only used 1 magazine because that is all I had with me. I should have taken the other 2 mags. It has the stock trigger and less than 400 rounds through it. I hit 3 inches to the left almost all the time with it, but I am getting used to it. I'll just compensate by aiming 3 inches to the right for my CCW class and then continue to improve with it after that. All things considered, it was a good day at the range and I didn't do too badly at all with it. I am used to shooting my CCPR 45 and 1911s, so this trigger is very different. But man, the joy of shooting all day and not having any FTFs... mmmmmmmm

I dont know if this was your problem or not, but in regards to the slide not always locking back after every mag.
Some people without realizing it, will place their thumb on the slide release when shooting. This can cause the slide to stay forward. I have done it and so has others on this forum. Just something to check out next time you shoot. Also , shooting to the left could be the way you are squeezing the trigger. The trigger is totally different than your kimber.

It is pretty easy to put your thumb on the slide release lever when gripping the gun. Every time I've had the slide fail to lock back, that has been the cause.

that is a very good point... i have been shooting 1911s about 90% of the time, so i am not really used to having my thumb out there dangling. i'm used to putting it on the 1911 safety. i wonder if i was doing that...
AH!!!!!!! now that you mention it, i placed 1 round in the magazine to do the one handed shooting (just in case i dropped the weapon). when i fired left handed, 1 shot, it locked to the rear, presumably because my thumb was on the other side. solution found!!!!!!!! it was right there in front of me the whole time and i just didn't pay attention to it. thanks guys!

Hey WW look at your front and rear sights carefully and see the centering line on the top of the slide for the sights??? are yours pretty much lined up ??? on one of my first XD's that was a problem and when I had the range recenter the rear sight all came back to center. Check it out.

Gee, I own both a Kimber and a Springfield XD. I think both of them shoot well. I used to have SA 1911A1 that was bullet proof too. I think there are lemons in all models.

don't get me wrong, i have never shot a weapon of any brand, any platform, that i was more accurate with than my Kimber... but if it won't feed it is a paperweight.
very hard to love a gun that fails sometimes, especially when there are 2 (XD40 and XD45Tac) sitting right next to it that never fail...

ok well, the rear sight appears to be slightly to the left of centered, which would make the shots go left, as they do. can i just tap this over a little or what?
