Xd-9 Sc Owners Beware

I dont mean to scare anyone, sorry! I went shooting today about 200 rounds through my XD-9SC that makes about 2000-2500 rounds total. when I got home I cleaned it and as I was looking it over real good I think I found two cracks in the frame. Ok bare with me I cant find the wire for my camera right now, sorry. both cracks/tooling marks (please let it be tooling marks) are located in the exact same spot on oposing sides just above the mag release button and extend about .25 in. straight up toward the front side of the bump below the thumb rest indention. I hope this a good enough description. Please look your guns over and let me know if this is cracks or tooling marks.

P.S. I have taken care of my guns, regular cleaning/inspection after every range visit. I have shot maybe 60 rounds of +P, but no +P+. I also just looked over my XD-9 Service and it has no such marks.

Thank you, Jack

I've got the same thing. Wouldn't worry about it too much.

I just checked.
My newest XDs the 40Service and all my XD45s show no marks like these.
Both of my SCs ( black-medium round count, BiTone-very low round count ) have that crack from the mag release pivot pin going upwards as well as another crack from the mag release button upwards.
My oldest XD the XD-9Service O.D. ( thousands of rounds ) has similar cracks but they are in different places but in the same area.
The odd part is that the cracks are symmetrical ( that means the same on BOTH sides for those of you from Arkansas ) and in the exact same place on both the SCs regardless of rounds fired.
Curious but not worried.

Don't worry about it.

I looked at my XD9SC and it has two symmetrical vertical lines over the mag release button as well.

The reasons I think that it is a tooling mark:

1. Too symmetrical and equal in size, angle.
2. Multiple weapons on different folks with the exact same markings.
3. The gap does not widen when the polymer is flexed
4. When you press down on the mag release button, you can see where the tooling mark ends. If it were a true crack, it would most definitely extend into the hole where the mag release button resides in.

Hope that helps. I've never noticed it on my pistol until you had mentioned it.

Cheers,

I don't have these cracks on my gun, and I shot 750-800 rounds so far. Definitely it is something to worry about, the gun frame is not supposed to crack, and shouldn't crack even in the tiniest amount.

The identical symmetrical cracks may be a flaw in the casting of the frame. Also, I think these cracks will weaken the overall structure of the gun, and could become breaking points if it runs deep in polymer.

If I were you I would call or send my gun to SA to get it cheked. If they say it's normal then I wouldn't worry about.

They are not cracks. They do not extend or change with torque. If it were a crack, it would go to the weakest point, the hole for the mag release.

Furthermore, the force of the stress of the weapon should create a fissure in about a 45 degree angle, not straight up vertically.

Think what you'd like and do what you feel is the safest for you, but I'm keeping mine and not sending it in for this issue.

Cheers,

Thanks for checking guys. I was little worried because none of my other XD's had these marks, but if you guys have the same symetricle marks I would think its just tooling marks. I realy didnt want to send in my ccw. it shoots to damn good

Gomer-

I think I can put your mind at ease. I just purchased an XD9SC and picked it up Wednesday. I haven't even put one round through it, and mine has the marks you are speaking about. They are very hard to notice, but have to be machining marks. Hope this helps.

My XD9SC has the same marks as well with about 400 rounds through it. Doesn't look like a crack to me. I don't think I am going to worry about it but will keep an eye on it and this post.
