^^ LOL
I didn't know I was beating a dead horse. Does it mean opinions are divided over this? |

No. Opinions are unanimous here. Loaded is ok. Springs dont fatigue from being compressed. They fatigue from cyclic action.

Well, that's good to hear. I really don't like dry firing and leaving it uncocked after every usage regardless how 'undamaging' that is to the roll pin.

I guess we need a metallurgist here to answer this (these) questions. Are we talking about days/weeks or months/years?
I'm not a metallurgist, but I can't imagine any problem with days or weeks. Months or years is a different story -- who on this forum goes months or years without shooting and then expects a working weapon? Don't clean it for months and then expect it to work when you need it? I don't see how it is possible to practice and still have this question? You either shoot it or you don't. I always assumed that we also cycled our magazines throught practice and carry ammo. |

As long as you keep your gun clean after using it, you don't typically need to clean it in between shooting. my dad has a few guns that rarely see range time, and they work flawlessly after being in the safe for a year or two straight.
When I'm transporting my XD9 it's always uncocked, however when it's loaded it's obviously cocked.

Dry firing is more damaging than leaving it loaded/cocked
