Slide sticks while cycling
Hey guys this is my first post but I have lurked for a long time.
Anyways I am having a problem with my XD 9. It started with several failure to extracts with double feeds while shooting last time out. I think the problem is when the spent casing is being extracted it gets hung on the casing lip of the next round in the magazine. The extractor comes off of the head of the casing leaving it in the chamber, the slide then continues backwards and then forward grabbing the next round out of the magazine and causing a double feed. I formed this theory because when I load a magazine with ten rounds and cycle through it by racking the slide at least 1 of the 10 will get caught by the round below it causing the slide to stick. I have to eject the magazine before I can rack the slide to get the round to eject. I have checked all 4 of my magazines and they all do the same thing, even the ones I don't shoot with. Any thoughts as to why the spent casing gets caught on the lip of the next round in the magazine? Shibby |

Have you noticed if it happens with all your mags? Mark you mags and make note of when it happens.

Try a different brand of ammo, and see if you are having the same problem.

What you're describing sounds like either the rounds are over sized or the mag lips are opened too much. You're saying this has always happened or just started to happen?

This has just started to happen I have over 1,500 rounds through my XD.
I too thought it would be the magazine but I tried everyone I have and it still sticks. I have a caliper and measured my 4 magazines and the inside of the narrow part of the lips range from .330'' to .346 I tried to take the extractor out tonight and look at it but I don't have one of those 90 deg. angle picks. I decided to leave it alone rather than risk breaking it buy trying to get it out with the wrong tools. Shibby |

I always use a small allen wrench to get my extractor out--just make sure you have the striker out first.

It may have something to do with the ejector or ammo. If your XD is new, it's recoil spring may be a bit too stiff and needs to be worked out. |
