Magazine spring help

Okay, I'm really f'ing confused. I have an XD 9 SC, and I took apart the 16 round magazine, then moved about 2 feet the right on my bench and took apart the compact 10 rounder. The spring in the compact magazine is about 2-3" longer than the one in the service size. Is this right?

By the way: this is a new gun, and the first time I've pulled the magazines apart. There is no way I switched parts, I was confused as soon as I opened them up and came here to ask.

Edit: I started playing with it, and the shorter spring doesn't fit into the compact magazine (it's too wide for the dimples at the bottom). It still seems wrong though.

If the spring doesnt fit, you must aqui . . . . wait, wrong trial!

I would have to guess that the longer spring goes into the longer magazine?

Also, if its too wide for one magazine, it should slip right into the other? I dunno

Well, yeah, but the longer spring came out of the shorter magazine. The shorter spring doesn't fit due to the dimples. That's the way they came from the factory, and the only way they fit right, but it just seems wrong, ya know?

Do they both have the same number of coils?

They are in fact different springs. The followers are different to. It might have something to do with ten round magazines and making sure no one can modify them to hold more rounds. I am pretty sure that's why 10 round mags have the "dimples" in the sides.

My gf has a 9 sc with both mags. I can open them up this weekend if you still haven't got confirmation. Surely someone else with a 9 sc can check theirs.
