Transporting guns in car without CCL

I guess I should know the answer to this but now I'm not sure. If you do NOT have a CCL and you are transporting your gun, to the range lets say, I know that it most be empty and should be in its case, but can the case the gun is in also have some ammo? Specifically, when I transport my XD can I have the two magazines that are also in the case loaded with ammo so long as neither mag is in the weapon? The laws seem a bit vague here...

Well, not to sure about Utah, but in California the pistol needs to be in a locked container with the ammo sepperate from the gun. You cant have loaded mags for the pistol. I remeber hearing that a loded pistol mag is the same thing as a loaded gun, even if its in seperate areas.

long guns do not need to be locked. And Im pretty sure that you can have a loaded mag for a long gun, only if the chamber is empty.

I would double cheak this info cause I might be wrong and the laws might be diffrent from California and utah

The laws will be diffferent from state to state. In VA you can open carry a loaded firearm in or out of a vehicle without a permit. Your best bet would be to look on a local Utah shooter's forum if you have one.

Don't know the law in UT. I'd ask a LEO. In fact I'd ask several LEO's to see if you got a consistent answer. Or you could call the city/county/state DA's office and see how you do.

In MO anyone can have a loaded gun in the glove box, no CCW needed.

Best solution, just put it in the trunk of your car. If it's inside the cabin of the car, I'm not sure about having ammunition in the same case. Probably not the best idea, but I'm sure some of the LEOs on the board can give you a better sense.

Depends on the state.

For the majority of states, the safest bet is gun in the glove compartment, ammo in the trunk, or vice versa. Keep the mags empty.
