How long should I wait before I get a Trigger Job?
As it reads, ill have my first gun next week, xd9 service. The premise of the trigger job looks wonderful. how long should i wait till i decide to install one? and how would it effect me if i told you this gun is for range/self defense use?

I'd put a couple hundred rounds through it to make sure there aren't any warranty issues, which most likely there won't be. Afterwhich you can do it at your leisure.

I would wait until I shot about 400-500 rounds thru it. The trigger will get smoother and you may decide against a trigger job. I was thinking about one but have decided to forgo the trigger job for now.If you shoot competition you may want one I don't shoot competition so I will let those who do offer their expert advice.Right now after shooting a few hundred rounds thru my XDs I like them as they are for self defense, in the future I may opt to buy some of the after market parts offered by some of the sponsorers on this forum and do it myself. If your dead set on a trigger job then just send it out right away and have it done. I understand that Canyon Creek does a superb trigger job.I don't know if this helps but I hope it will some what anyway.Your going to love your XD.

would a trigger job void warranty? even if something went wrong after i installed the trigger job, that was of no relation to the trigger job, i wouldnt feel bad about taking it out and replacing original parts, so i can send the gun in for repair.

A few hundreds round is a good idea, but no amount of break-in will reduce the take-up, over-travel, and reset of the trigger.
I have no problem with the pull weight of the trigger, only the slack in it. The only thing I miss about my Glock. I'm going to go with the Powder River striker saftey kit on the XD45 compact. I'm going to have Daniel drill and tap my trigger bar for me. Although I may end up buying a Springer bar for it. Depending on my satisfaction with the Powder River striker saftey kit, I'll either do the same to my XD9sc or go with the springer kit. I don't think it void the warranty jcabin. But as you stated, you could always make it stock again if needed. I completely took my XD45C frame apart Sunday. It wasn't that hard. Avoid taking the grip saftey and mag release apart though. They were a bitch to put back in.

Aside from the technical stuff that everyone else mentioned, if this is truly your first gun I would wait until you learn the mechanics of trigger press and reset, etc. before you got a trigger job.
You should be a good shot before you get a trigger job, so you're not learning how to shoot with a handicap. My XD was my first gun, and when I was new to shooting I thought that guns with real DAO or DA/SA triggers were broken because I couldn't shoot them. Ruger? I thought it was crap. SIG? I thought it was crap. Glock was the only trigger I could handle. That was before I was taught how to shoot. Now I'm okay with any trigger system.

And what was different between the triggers and your previous approach that you thought those triggers were broken? TIA.

The XD and Glock triggers are pretty much short, light, and crisp single-action triggers. You can slap them with your finger and they will go off, and if you slap the trigger cleanly you can get good results. This is even a viable competition shooting technique with tricked-out sport guns.
The problem is that it will not work with any other types of triggers. For instance, the weapon that I am issued at work is a SIG P229R with a 12 pound double-action-only trigger. You cannot slap it, you have to use the trigger reset technique. The trigger reset is what happens after you fire a shot. The trigger will reset itself before the trigger is fully released. You should release the trigger only until you feel it reset, and then begin your next shot. Also, you should not take your finger off of your trigger after the shot; the finger should stay in contact with the trigger and you should ease it forward until it resets. Then you being your next shot. This will work with single-action-only triggers, double-action-only triggers, and double-action/single-action triggers. It's explained very well by Gabe Suarez in his AK video: YouTube - Kalashnikov Rifle Gunfighting

I'd shoot a good amount with the gun before I considered a trigger job. As someone already stated, the XD trigger is fine for most applications. At first it does tend to be a bit gritty, but that will ease up as you put rounds downrange. I have a good deal of rounds through my XD ( I gave up the actual counting around 1200) and I couldn't be happier with the trigger as it is now. In the future I may send it to Springer to be worked up, but for now I can't see fixing something that doesn't need fixed.

My trigger seems gritty and hard to get used to. It's good to read all these posts about it getting better over time! I will wait on my trigger job.
