First and second use of XD Tactical
Here's a couple images from my first and second trip to the range with my new XD Tactical 357 sig. Both are at 5 yards. I have made improvements but still have an occasional flier low left. See pics.

Yeah, thanks, I'm making better progress than I expected, not that I'm complaining...
I actually caught myself snapping the gun left once and have worked with finger placement and being more patient. I kind of like to have a little trigger work done, not so much to reduce the pull but to make it smoother. A shorter take up etc might be nice but for me just having the pull made smoother would be nice. I want to work at longer range as well but for that I need to work out how to deal with 51 year old eyes that either sees well beyond arms reach without glasses but can't see sh*t within arms reach or when I put the glasses on I can see the front sight well enough but the target at 15 yards and beyond is just a blurr. All-in-all I really like the way the XD Tactical 357 sig feels and shoots. My only previous experience with handguns prior to this new toy was the REALLY CRAPPY 38's I had to qualify with annually while in the USAF (1977-1981). That POS revolver was used and abussed by so many others you'd be lucky to hit a man sized target at point blank range! It was kind of sad to see how little attention the USAF paid to marksmenship back then. In the 4 years I served I fired the M-16 on only one day in basic -- a total of 100 rounds I think with 20 sighters and 80 to qualify. The range guy 'adjusted' the sights on my rifle after the sighters but the chuckle head next to me added about 10 rounds to my target so the guy had to guess where to put the sights. I qualified OK and had a pretty tight group but the group was about 4 inches left and about 2 inches low. Brian |

I have wanted a .357 Sig for so long, just never did the deed. How painful is the .357 from the XD? I'm really looking for the right pistol to get in this caliber. Nice shooting, by the way.

You know, since I'm not an experienced handgun shooter I expected the recoil to be more of an issue than it is. My technique is far for perfect but I don't have any fear of it. The first day I had it I shot a total of about 150 rounds and I did begin to feel it towards the final 20 rounds. Nothing painful and probably more from using the hand in ways it's not used to more than the impact of the recoil itrself. The charactoristic of the recoil is no doubt different than, say, the 45ACP as the much faster bullet produces as faster 'rise time' on the recoil force so the apparent recoil may well be greater than the true recoil because of how fast the force rises. The 45ACP, OTH, should produce a longer push and may feel less when it is in fact more. So, if a relative noob has no issues I'd say it's not likely to be an issue for an experianced handgun shooter.
