I have been able to help some friends with a bad 'flinch' with a combo of having them practice technique with a .22 pistol, then have them use a *lot* of ear protection when they shoot the larger caliber pistols...getting rid of the 'BANG' goes a long way

I am far from an expert (in fact i am a novice), but i just took my ccw class this weekend and I had the low and to the left problem. It was most definitely my trigger pull. My instructor gave me a magazine mixed with live and dummy rounds (me not knowing the order). When I came to a dummy round, I could easily see the trigger acceleration and gun jerk that went with it. It was my trigger pull that was causing my problem and I still need a lot of practice but that technique made me aware of what I was doing. He said to practice practice practice, including dry firing. He also to continue to put dummy rounds mixed with live ones (or have a friend do it) so I can be mentally aware that I am doing it.

the dummy rounds will help you find out what you are doing wrong but shooting live rounds is what is going to help you get over the jerk.
